Powerpoint 2003 - Slide Master
I'm trying to understand Slide Master, Title Master, and then Design Template a little bit better. What is not clear, is where is the Slide Master that I have created? Where is it saved, and under what name. Can you have more than one? I understand how to view it, but not the above. How does it differ from the Design Template? Also, most importantly, how does changing one, affect the other?

Select the slides hover over the design template within the taskpane and click on the drop-down arrow beside it. Click on the "Apply to selected slides" option.

Hi frankly orange. Okay I am going try answer your question as best as possible.

The slide master is the underlying template of any power point project. It dictates the size default fonts for different elements of each slide, colour of fonts and backgrounds and displays specified text and graphics on each new slide you make in the project.

The title master is a special slide master which only applies to title slides and allows one to have a different "look" for title slides. In essence though, it is still part of the slide master.

Slide templates are simply predefined slide masters which have been included in the powerpoint package to help people get started. You can of course create your own templates through "styling" the slide master and saving it as a design template.

The slide master is saved as part of the power point project and to the best of my knowledge, not separate file exists for this.

Design templates are simply blank projects where the slide maser has already been styled. These are saved in the Microsoft, template folder.

Thus changing the slide master will change the slide template. This change will only apply to the current project you are working on, unless you specifically select to save as a design template and save over the original file.

In order to make use of a title master, it requires that you use the slide layout options and select a title layout. Otherwise by defualt, each time you add a new slide, the slide master design will be applied.

I was so with you until you mentioned term "Style Masters" Are these the same as "Slide Masters" And thanks for the tutorial. I will look it over.

Thumbs up create templates while master
Templates are "pre-made" presentation shells, which contain other presentation style aspects, including specifications for the type and size of bullets and fonts, placeholder sizes and positions, and color schemes. When you apply a template to your presentation, the Title Master and Slide Master (text slide or secondary slide) are already available for you to insert text. The background, typeface, font color and size are already set. That is, if you change the template for one slide, the background, typeface, font color and size will be changed correspondingly. It is in .pot format.

How to create PowerPoint template by yourself?
1. Select View menu -> Master -> Slide Maste.
2. To make a change in the master title area, click once within the main title area, and then make any changes you want to the font, size, style, color, or alignment.
3.To make a change in the bulleted list, click once within the line that you want to change, and then make your adjustments to the font, style, color, alignment, or even the bullet.
4. To add a picture to the master slide, insert clip art or a digital image the way you normally do, by selecting Picture on the Insert menu. Be sure to move the picture to a location off to the side so that it will not interfere with the text on each slide. You might need to make the picture smaller so that it will not be in the way of the text.
5. Continue to make changes to the slide master as needed.
6. Click the title master slide at the top-left to make adjustments to the title master.
7. Click Close Master View on the Slide Master View toolbar when you are finished.
8. Select File menu -> Save As...
9. On the Save as type menu, select 'Design Template'.
10. Give a name to your new design and click 'Save'. The next time you select Format -> Apply Design Template the design you created will appear in the list of options. Select it and click 'OK' to apply it to the presentation.
