Solved: Excel help needed!
I'm sure that there is something simple that I am overlooking here -- but I cannot figure this one out! Then again, I only know enough to be dangerous.

I have a wookbook that I use every year for scheduling our employees. The sheets reference cells from other sheets. For instance, I use this to determne if a person is going to be here on a particular day: =IF(January!F45=1,"",IF(January!F45="","-",January!F45))

Funny enough that for the file I'm making for next year, I simply take the one from this year and modify it... and when I change the reference, the cell returns the text of the formula -- not the contents of the cell from the January sheet.

I've tried locking/unlocking... but not really sure what I'm doing....

Any thoughts/sugggestions? (other than giving up )

Thanks!

Never give up!
Are your cells formatted as General? Formulas don't work well, at least initially, with any other formatting.

I made sure the cells are formatted to General.

At least now it recognizes it as a formula... but returns a #VALUE error.

=IF(January!B45=1,"",IF(January!B45="","-",January!B45))

Hmmm....

Can you make a copy of your file (delete any confidential info if you need to) and upload it?
The formula works fine for me.

I stripped out all kinds of stuff to get to 200Kb. The password is "schedule". Thanks for your help!

in row 4 the formula has too many "" - it should be in C
=IF(January!B44=1,"",IF(January!B44="","-",January!B44))
the same error is in D. In E, you have a reference error - you must have deleted a column or renamed a sheet.
In C9, just put your cursor in the formula bar, got to the end and hit enter.
