Question Outlook multiple emails
Hi my prob is not so much partial, but multiple emails are being sent.
When I forward on an email to multiple contacts, they can receive it up to 20 times, then I get an error message back stating that they are over their quota, because of me. They do in actual fact receive the email in correct format multiple times. Is this and outlook error, a virus, or my internet security (trend). My ISP (bigpond) has advised me to turn off my firewall when I send an email!!!!!!!! I dont like the sound of that nor do I want to do that. I run a business and emailing files to clients - looks kind of embarassing.

Hi knkj

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

What version of Outlook are you using?
When you send a message, does it leave the Outbox?

Does this occur with any message or only with messages containing attachments?
Does Bigpond have a limit on the size of messages that are sent through their server?

Let us know.

Hi EAFiedler,

Thanks for responding, answering your questions:
I am running Vista-Business with MS Office 2007, Outlook.
No, the email doesn't leave the outbox - you have to delete it to stop it from sending.
Yes, the email does have an attachment.
Yes, my ISP has a limit of 10KB on outgoing mail.

I await your reply, thanks.

I saw that.
10KB leaves absolutely no room for attachments.

It sounds like you are pushing the limits on the size of your attachments.
What size are the messages that you are having to delete from the Outbox?
What type of attachments are you using? Can you trim them?

Hi EAFiedler,
I reposted that I have a 10MB on outgoing mail, so it's of decent size that I can send.
Some of my attachments are approx 3MB these are company bookkeeping files, and others are usually only in the KB's but some of these can be upto 1MB these are usually diddy's, pictures and or funny's from friends being forwarded on.
I have had one of my clients tell me that they have been experiencing similar from other senders of emails too. Could it be a virus that's going around?

The usual causes of this are 1) scanning outgoing mail with an antivirus scanner (completely pointless - if possible, reconfigure your AV to not do this), 2) a too-short send.receive interval, and 3) a too-short server timeout value.
You might consider switching to AVG, which I find not to give me any problems.

Hi Slurpee55,
I have read and gone to your suggested links on web site - a basic run down to see if I got it.
Disable/turn off the emails section in my AV (trend) - "Spam Email Filter", is this the one? And this shouldn't effect any AV protection for the rest of the computer?
Thanks.

No, right-click on the AVG icon in the bar at the bottom of your screen and go to "Open AVG Interface." When it comes up, go to the button called "E-mail Scanner" and double-click it. At the bottom you will see "E-mail Scanner settings." Uncheck the one labeled "Scan outgoing messages." Click "Save Changes" and then close.

And this will not affect anything else about your AV protection. Realistically, all scanning outgoing would do is catch it if you were sending out viruses, and, as long as you keep your PC clean, you won't do that.

Slurpee55, I dont use AVG I use Trend AV. It appears it may be a virus, coz if I do a AV Scan then a registry clean up it seems to stop the multiple emails being sent. I cant come up with anything else that it could be.
Thanks for all your help, I'll have to see how it runs for a while.
