Question Microsoft Word: Cannot Remove Pane


Does anyone know either:

The name of the pane on the left
OR
How to prevent it from appearing when Word is started?

What version of Word is that? Looks like the thumbnail pane, which I think started after 2003. Don't have that on the computer I'm currently working on, but try going to View/Thumbnail Pane and see if that turns it off.
