Question Solved: drawing a table around data in word or copying to excel
I have a weird problem I need help with. I am doing some work and have been given data in a word document like so:

F,22.50,0.415,owner,given,guard_etc,private_s,0.335,0,t,oth_inst_,00144,0,r eject
M,56.42,28,rent,not_given,creative_,private_s,28.5,40,f,given,00000,15,acce pt
F,22.42,5.665,owner,given,office_st,private_s,2.585,07,f,given,00129,3257,a ccept

its not in a table and there is over 400 lines of it! I need to put this data into excel so I can sort through it. if it was in a table I could do paste special to place each bit of data into a different row.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to either:
  1. place the data into a table
  2. copy the data correctly into excel

This appears to be csv data

See if this is what you need.

The attached table was created by
1. opening excel
2. copying your data to row2 column 1 (R2C1)
3. selecting data text to columns
4. choosing delimited text and comma as a separater.
5. finish

I have Word 2000.

I can copy your sample into a new doc, then select it all, then select Table > Convert > Text to table ("separate text at" = commas).

Maybe you could try that.

That should work (In Word: Convert text to table). I have done it many times before, and just tried it myself with your data.
There are complement functions, in Word, to convert text to table; or the other way, table to text.

By the way, you do have an issue with your spaces in, what is probably whole words (IE. not "r eject" but s/b "reject", and not "acce pt" but s/b "accept" etc.).
It looks like you have some issue that injects a "space" into position 76 of whole line strings. Not an uncommon problem, but something that might help you to be aware of.
