I tried using my new HP Deskjet D1455 to print a MS-Word document containing red, green and indigo type. All three of these colors were off (although black appeared fine). Green looked light blue, red looked magenta-ish and indigo looked violet – even though these colors looked fine in the preview shown by the HP before printing. When I used the HP to print a test photograph, all the colors were right on the money. So I’m thinking that my old version of MS-Word is starting to become obsolete and it just isn’t compatible with my brand new HP printer. I’m wondering of there’s any update available from Microsoft for the 2002 version of Word that might make it behave like it’s newer than it is. Thanks in advance if there’s anything like that available. ~kresknull | | Senior Member with 867 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Vancouver, WA Experience: Intermediate | | There is no Word 2002. There is Word 2000 and Word 2003 and now Word 2007. Which one are you using? | | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2009 Experience: beginner/intermediate | | Quote:

I guess it must be Word 2000. | | Moderator with 12,024 posts. | | | | | | | Senior Member with 867 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Vancouver, WA Experience: Intermediate | | Aha! Word is part of the MS Office Suite, not the MS Works Suite. You are using the Works equivalent of Word, but it isn't the same program. I can't help you with that one. I can't see why the age of Office XP would have anything to do with that either. Go to www.microsoft.com and go under Microsoft Office and download any updates and let's find out. | | Senior Member with 867 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Vancouver, WA Experience: Intermediate | | He doesn't have Office, he has Works. | | Distinguished Member with 19,731 posts. | | Join Date: May 2006 Location: Eastern Pa Experience: Advanced | | Quote:

Back in the day when I used Works, it was entirely separate from all parts of Office. And I forgot Office XP was actually 2002. #10 | Yes many versions of Works had it's own word processor but also most had some vesion of Ms Word and even standalone versions of Word always file it as Microsoft Office. It's confusing no question. | | Senior Member with 867 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Vancouver, WA Experience: Intermediate |

There's a strange thing about this:
If I want to print a document that contains some green text. My HP software first shows me a preview - and the preview contains green text (the same shade of green.) Yet when I actually print it, the green turns to light blue. Yet - when I tried printing a photograph, the preview looked good and the actual printed page also looked good. | | Senior Member with 867 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Vancouver, WA Experience: Intermediate |

#14 | It would seem that as long as Kresknull has a driver for the printer that is designed for his version of Windows, that the version of Word (or Works) being used shouldn't be the issue, since the modern printer drivers are Windows-version specific, and not for particular applications.
It's not like the case with DOS applications, where each program uses its own specific printer drivers. | | Administrator with 11,743 posts. | | Join Date: Feb 1999 Location: Allentown, PA Experience: Microsoft Word MVP |
