In office 07 I have a contact list when I send an e-mail and I go to add addresses it shows nothing. It advises to go to contact properties and click the the box in the address tab that says something like use contacts as outlook address book but the box is greyed out and will not let me change, anyone know how to show my contacts??? Thanks

you need to create a new profile and then import the pst file into that new profile. set the new profile as default.

visit ms kb articles 829918 & 287070 to fix the problem.

Hi fungi32

Even though the Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book is grayed out, is there a check in the box?

If so, you may need to have the Contacts folder show first instead of the entry: Outlook Address Book.

Open the Address Book in Outlook 2007,
Tools > Options
In the Addressing window click the drop down arrow for: Show this address list first:
Select the Contacts folder.
Do the same for the next field, in the third field you may need to move the Contacts list to the top.

If the above is not the case, you may need to Remove the Outlook Address Book, restart Outlook 2007, then you can enable the: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book

File > Data File Management > Address Books tab > Change > Remove Address Book > Close > Close

Close and restart Outlook 2007, immediately right click the Contacts folder and place a check mark in: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book

Start a new message to test

You removed the Outlook Address Book, closed and restarted Outlook 2007, then immediately tried to place a check mark in: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book and it was still grayed out?

It will not let me delete the outlook address book this is not an option? File/data file management/address book click on the address book and remove is not an option if I try change it gives a broken box with nothing in it which I can remove but it returns as soon as I open it again there is no text in the broken box?

Outlook 2007 definitely behaves differently from Outlook 2003.
On my Outlook 2007 when I remove the Address Book, I don't have to add it back in after restarting Outlook 2007.

Can you post a screen shot of the broken box?

Sorry, haven't forgotten you.

Try creating another Contacts folder.
Right click the top folder:
Select: New Folder
In the Name field, Key in: Contacts01

Click the drop down arrow for the: Folder contains: field and select: Contact Items
Click: OK

The new Contacts01 folder should appear.
Attempt to designate this Contacts folder to: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book

Let us know if that works or not.

Let's try this.

Start Outlook 2007 and place it in Work Offline mode:
File > Work Offline

Create a new Personal Folders:
File > New > Outlook Data File > OK > OK

Rename the Personal Folders as shown here:

Click: OK

The new Personal Folders should appear in Outlook 2007.

Change the Default Delivery Location.
File > Data File Management > Data Files tab
Select the new Personal Folders (Test) and click: Set as Default

A message will appear to let you know you are changing the Default Delivery Location.
When you click: OK the Default designation should appear beside the new folder.
If it doesn't, click: Set as Default again.
Click: Close

Close and restart Outlook 2007 (it should still be in Work Offline mode),
Remove the Address Book,
File > Data File Management > Address Books tab > Change
Click the Remove Address Book button, until the window is empty.
Click: Close, Close
Close and restart Outlook 2007, immediately attempt to configure the Contacts folder in the original Personal Folders to: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book

If that option is still greyed out, Remove the Address Book again. Remove all entries in the Address Book, close and restart Outlook 2007 and attempt to enable: Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book

Hopefully, this was successful. If that is the case.
Return the original Personal Folders to be the: Default Delivery Location, using the steps above.
Take Outlook 2007 out of Work Offline mode:
File > Work Offline

Let us know what happens.
