Outlook 2003 - using up too much CPU Power
Hi there,

I'm running Outlook 2003 with Service Pack update.

It's using 160,000K of memory at the moment, pushing my CPU to 100%

It's running painfully slow - does any one have ideas please??

Many Thanks

Gavin

In the task manager on the process tab, resort the CPU column, which process has the highest number, and what is the value.

I have OL2007 and my CPU is Memory usage is 116,548 K CPU 00.

I had this problem once, it can either be malware/virus ...or oddly enough one time I had an issue with Spoolsv.exe showing 99 in the CPU column...after killing the process the CPU returned to normal...after that I found that I had a hung print job, and after I deleted it completely everything was fixed.

Look at my Post 12 HERE I did have some malware at that time, but I don't know if it was related as removing it did not fix the CPU, but the Print job did.

Might be a longshot but doesn't hurt to check

Thanks, yes I did run Malaware...and it seemed to get rid of the Trojan.

Hurrah!!

Thanks loads for that help....saying that though I think my computer is getting old as it's getting quite slow and CPU is up to 100%

what are your specs, if you are still runing at 100% you may still have a problem. Trojans can be difficult to get rid of, even with a malware program. I recommend you post a HJ log in the Security section.

doesn't matter how old your PC is ( unless you really want to go back far), the CPU should not be running at 100% constantly.
