Unhappy sort by color in Excel 2007
I love the new sort by color option in Excel 2007 but the option seems to disappear once the workbook is shared. Help?

when the file is unshared there is a color filter option in the dropdown menu. When I share the file this option is no longer there. Is there another method?

If you click on the drop-down arrow beneath the Sort and Filter button you should see a "Custom Sort..." option. If you will see color sorting options within there.

i tried that but the sort by dropdown only gives me a list of the column headers. If I select the column I wish to sort, it only allows me to sort by values, not colors...

Welcome to the Forum!
With your shared workbook, does someone else have it open when you are trying this? Sharing in Excel is still a pretty iffy thing, and if the other has made changes and not saved them (and you can't see them until they have been saved) then Excel is probably waiting to see if there are formatting changes that would affect the sorting - for instance, if you have a conditional format that changes the color to red when a certain value falls below a set number, and the other is entering data that would affect how this is - or is not - colored, then Excel should wait until the calculation(s) are completed.
