Misbehaving arrow keys
Hi,
It's school report writing time and I've been sent a Word document to use as a template to write reports in.

The many different areas are text boxes. If I try to use the arrow keys or home/end buttons when I'm editing, the cursor jumps to another box above and will not return unless I click the cursor there. It's driving me nuts!

Any idea what's happening and how I could stop it?

Oh, and I'm using Word Professional 2003 in case that matters.

Cheers

Text boxes are overlays on the document - not really text within the document. So if you click out of one, the cursor will jump past the next one and go to the bottom of it or the top of the next - but not into it.
I would use a table if that is what you want.

Still having issues.
I have been given the template and can't really use a table as the document is already all set up to match headed paper and printers etc. Wouldn't want to have to refiddle all of that.
Not using fields I believe.
The IT dude at work tried turning off smart cursoring which I thought had solved it, but just loaded a document now and having the same problem again. I'm not clicking anywhere, I'm trying to use the directional arrow keys to move through text to edit. The up and down key cause the cursor to jump to a different box even if there is a text line above and below the initial position.

is there any way you can upload the document so I can see what you are talking about, or is it confidential?

File attached
Thanks! I am currently deleting the boxes off the front page, working on the document, then re-doing the front page. Be good to know how to solve this though!

I cannot recreate this. Are you sure you don't have sticky keys turned on? Try holding down one of your shift keys for about 8 or 10 seconds and see what happens. You should get an option about turning sticky keys off. I bet that is what is causing this issue.

thanks,

v
