My Paper Disappeared from MS Word. Please Help!
I finished my papoer and saved it multiple times under My Documents many times while I was working on it and of course once when it was all done. I went to check it this morning and it was gone. I checked in the Most recient folders and it was there but would not open. I got a message saying something like "searching for lost short cut". I let this run for a long time and nothing changed. So I closed out and came back to try again about 2 hours later. When I went back into the recient folders it was completely gone. I've tried everything that I can think of, done every search I know and even downloaded PC Inspector File Recovery to try and find it. Nothing. Any suggestions? The paper's due on Monday and I'm desperate. Thank you.

What searches have you tried? Did you search for a key word in the document or the title of the document? It's best to use one that is not common so you don't get a ton of results.

Did you try clicking on "File" and seeing if it's listed there?

I suspect you may have not used "save as" but rather just save and ended up saving it to the content.ie5 temporary Internet Files folder. I'm not sure how long they stay there but it's worth a shot to look.

Go to Start - Run and copy and paste the following command and click OK:

%windir%\Explorer.exe /e, "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Open each of the folders there with names that are a bunch of letters that don't spell anything in particular and see if you can find it there. If it's there you should be able to open it and resave it properly.
