Question Adding to an existing outlook distribution list from excel
Hi,

I have a shared distribution list in Outlook. Those people included are selected from a global address book. I have a list of people I need to add currently in excel (not their email addresses, just their names as they would appear in the global address book).

Outlook will only let me add one name at a time, and I have to add it manually (it won't even let me cut and paste then Ctrl+K).

Is there any way to add all of these new people in one go, or will i just have to trudge through manually?

Many thanks

Dave

I'm not sure what version of outlook you are using but you could try copying the cells with names into word - then converting the table to text and selecting a semi colon ; to seperate the entries, then try dragging that list into the create distribution list box. You Can try the control+V from word to see if that works.

If you are using 2007 then the place to copy the data would be:
In the Distribution List window - click select members - search for anyone at all - Once you have done this the Members button at the bottom will be live. Copy the data from word into the white entry box.

That should work for you!!

Thanks for the quick reply Jubbaloo.

I am using Outlook 2003.

It won't allow me to cut and paste; I've had to block the names out in these images (this is a work task!) but this is what i can do:

1) Open list properties

2)Clicked "Modify Members"

3)Clicked "Add"

In box 3, you can only type in the "type name or select name from list" box, so i can cut and paste in there, but it's still a one by one process. It won't let me paste or type directly into the "Add ->" box.

Any ideas?

Thanks for all your help,

Dave

I've done some searching and apparantly its just one of those silly things outlook 2003 cant do easily

I did however find a previous post that with a little bit of work might be what you are looking for.

http://forums.techguy.org/business-a...nto-new.html#7

Bear in mind in the VBA code this guys email address was in column C so if your names are in a different column look for where the code says C and change it to whatever your column is.

This isnt my code so I have no idea if it works - i am testing it now on an example so will post again in a few mins with what i have found

Ok i cant test it because 2007 objects are different but i hope it works for you because im struggling to help with different version.

Also when your posting pictures you have to upload them as attachments - or upload them to a website and then link to them in your post. I cant see the images as they are only on your computer.
