getting certain data
i have an access database that stores parts and their numbers and info. in excel i have a list of just the part numbers.

i know how to connect to the access database and import all the parts in excel. but what i want to do is to fill out the information of each part in the excel worksheet by using the access database. how can i do this?

spdstr, welcome to the Forum.
Do the Parts need to be in Excel, or can they also be only in Access?
They key do doing what you want is to have a Unique ID for each part to relate them to the data in Access.

Then all you need to do is correctly relate your tables using an ID Key field, you can then either display the data on one form or preferably on a Main and Subform.
Can you post a copy of what you have?

ill try. basically its a bill of materials. im going to have a button, when pressed, will search for the parts in access that match those in the excel worksheet and copy the matching data to excel. i hope this makes sense.

Would it not be easier to put all the Parts in Access in to Excel and then choose them from there?
Or create the BOMs in Access and export them to Excel?
Matching the values between Access and Excel is much harder to achieve.

yea it probably is though the access database is constantly changing so exporting to Excel might work the best.

The way that I would do it is to Create the the BOM in Access and then use TransferSpreadsheet to create or replace the Excel version of it.
The advantage of that is that you do not need to reproduce all of the data in the Access version of the BOM, just link the Tables, the data can then be brought together as a Query to export to Excel.
Do you need help with creating a BOM Table?

Can you provide me with the Assemblies that the Parts go into and what data needs to go in the BOM Table?
