Solved: Compatibility Question: Vista Operating System & Microsoft Office (Word, Exc
I recently had to purchase a new computer because my old one crapped out. I had Window XP on it and had purchased Microsoft Office Standard (xp version) so I could get Word, Excel and Outlook. Later I purchased another Microsoft Office, XP CD so I could install Publisher. My new computer came with Vista Home Premium. Can I download these applications on my new computer with the Vista operating system or do I need to go by new version of these applications that are Vista compatible? Thanks! Rich

They will work fine in Vista. The "XP" after the Office version has nothing to do with the XP operating system. It was just a popular name at the time and they named Office with that, too.

The Office XP is version 2002 (version 10), which came out around the time of Windows XP, where XP stands for eXPerience (just a fancy name jingle).

Saved you some money at least. They don't give Office away, if you haven't noticed. And for what I do, anyway, old versions work just fine.
