Hi,
When you start typing an email address in Outlook 2007 it shows options to autocomplete the address from all the thousands of previous email addresses you've used in the past, not only those ones you've saved in your contacts list.

I need a solution to save all those 'extra' email addresses that show up.
I deal with sales and in one day I can send up to 1200 emails and saving each one would just weigh me down time wise.

If there's a program that will save these addresses please let me know, thanks.

If I understand correctly, you want us to help you spam people?

Hi Cookiegal,
I understand your concern for me spamming people but let's get thru that right now before you just jump to the wrong conclusion. I am moving to a different business premises and my PC I use at this location is staying here. I haven't got a backup of all my customer lists and emails so I need to transport all this information to my new premisis, including that autocomplete function of those emails not in my contacts list. The other alternative is to go through every single sent email under my sent/received items and copy out the email address. I cannot take any hardware from this PC with due to serial number allocation of harddrives in security cases and security protacol. There must be a way to do this, do you know?

Oh yes, and those 1200 emails a day is not spam, it's dealings with existing clients.

I understand what you're saying but since this is a company computer do you not have an IT person who can set this up for you?

No, the IT guy doesn't know a solution to this and so it's become my problem. He can back up existing emails and contacts but that's the easy stuff. I need the 'hidden' contacts list that shows up to autocomplete the email address.

Can you suggest a solution or converse with the other technical administrators on this site to find one? I realise your advice is free but I'd like to get a solution for this ASAP and thanks for your input so far.

I think these "Contacts" that you are looking for are in the NK2 file that is in the same folder as the PST file.
It is a NickName list and is what the drop down list uses. I know of no real way of exporting it and I have not heard anything about copy and moving to a new machine.

Thanks Dave, so if I copy this file over into the other outlook folder on the new pc it should work, right?
Are you guessing on the NK2 file extension or how do you know about this file extension and what it does?
Is there a website reference somewhere?

I am not sure about coping and moving to another machine if this will work or not.

NK2 extension is what MY Outlook 2007and 2003 has.

If those don't work for you let me know and I can probably write a macro for you that will loop through all your sent items and inbox and save the email addresses to an Excel file that can be imported into your contacts.

It is indeed the NK2 file where all those addresses are hiding.

That NK2 program is a real life saver. Now I must just learn how to export from that program into an Excel format and import all those addy's back into the new Outlook.
This brings up a new issue I've just thought of... Is there a program that will merge NK2 files. If there is then it will be really easy to bring along a huge database of emails in 1 file rather than taking along multiple NK2 files from different PC's. Then everybody working in sales can have this 'automatic' list of drop down emails after I merge all the NK2 files into one file for the whole office.

WOW! I think I may have taken one step into 'The Abyuss'. LOL!

Those programs should allow you to export to CSV format which can be imported directly into Outlook. The macros aren't difficult to write but why reinvent the wheel if you can export directly to CSV which can easily be imported by Outlook. As far as I know there is no way to merge N2K files.

The NK2 file is the last thing I would try and keep around. It would be best if you were to add all of these addessses to your Contacts.

Okay, I would like to thank everybody who was involved here with this thread.

If I wanted to 'merge' the NK2 file it's the same as if I just saved all the info into CSV format and imported it all into the Outlook program.
You're all clever and deserve a promotion at work.
