Hello Shawty,

Welcome to the forum.

What type of hotkeys are you referring to? Do you want just keyboard shortcuts using the Alt key or when the user presses a few keys a number of times a warning pops up? Also what version of Access are you using?

Best,
Zhouma

Access 2007
Thank you. I use Access 2007. I need keyboard shortcuts (alt + key) to all buttons in a switchboard. I tried the usual & in front of letters. I`m doing something wrong. It works on forms etc, but it doesn`t in switchboard. Any insight? Where EAXACTLY do I assign the hot keys? Through Switchboard Manager??

Hello Shawty,

You are on the right track by using the ampersand (&). To add the & to the Switchboard in Access 2007, do the following:

-Open the switchboard in Design View
-Go to the property sheet for the switchboard button(s) in question
-Go to the "All" tab in the property sheet
-You want to place the & in the caption of the switchboard button you want to use the Alt function for
-Put the & in front of the letter you want to use the Alt key with

Try the above and let me know if you have any more questions.

Best,
Zhouma

Hello again Shawty,

Just to be a little clearer. Make sure to put the ampersand (&) in the caption for the textbox for the switchboard button. So if the textbox next to your switchboard button says..."Open Main Screen". You want to click on the textbox where "Open Main Screen" is in design view and put the & in the caption (in the property sheet) there.

Best,
Zhouma

That`s exactly the problem. I have 4 buttons with lables on the first page of my switchboard, but when I open it in design view it only shows ONE button and its lable says "Item text".

Just to clarify. I assigned the lable captions through the switchboard management. But when I typed & it showed on the lable. No letter underscore, just & and the lable text. It just didn`t work.
Thanks for replying.

Hi Shawty,

The way I usually get the caption working is to actually type the text into the button's label/text box in design view.

Well there is another way, you can try putting the ampersand in the Switchboard items table. This usually works also. Either way, when you go into design view if there isn't any text next to your button...these methods won't work. So just make sure to retype whatever you want the button's title to be next to your button.

Either way, I've attached a demo. Take a look and then we can use the attached as a basis for further questions.

Best,
Zhouma

First off, thank you for the patience. I looked at your SB. Everything makes sence. But take a look at mine and try to do anything in design view. You know, I even deleted your SB and built it over and everything worked. So I created a new database and created a SB. OLD STORY! Hotkeys do not work. Just can`t assign them. I attached it, please take a look. I`m sooo puzzled.

Hello Shawty,

Thanks for attaching your database. I see why the & isn't working. Your text is in a textbox...for the & to work...the text must be in a label. If you change your textbox to a label (you can do this by right clicking on the textbox...use the "change to" option and choose label) you will see that the &s start to work.

Now for the rest of your switchboard I see you are working with three switchboards that function as one. And that these switchboards use Macros instead of the VBA code that you see in my version.

I will create the same switchboards in my version of Access 2007 and repost. I think a lot of the problem has to do w/ the fact your switchboard uses textboxes instead of labels and your textbox is bound to the form (where the textbox equals the "ItemText" field from your Switchboard items table)...so the switchboard functions more like a continuous form than a switchboard.

Either way, give me a day or so to do this and I'll get back at ya.

Also...I'll see if I can create a version using the Macros that your version has and post that also.

Ty, stranger. I really need this one. Have an exam that has "assigning hotkeys in switchboard" coming up.Whatever the outcome, thank you for sticking in.

Bw, I tried to change it to lable, and Access just freaked out on me. Error here and error there. It had to restart and it couldn`t save my changes. Voodoo.

I will post my versions by tonight my timezone. Just out of curiosity, where did you get your version of Access 2007? I've heard of different versions acting differently but your version is def a mystery.

Either way, if you remember where/how you got your version let me know.

Hey Shawty,

Here's my first crack at the switchboards...the back button for the view tables is acting a little funny...I'm in the process of sorting that out but either way take a look at the attached and let me know if this helps at least get you on the right track.

Best,
Zhouma
