I tried installing the file I downloaded from the website you suggested (filename: office2007-kb946691-fullfile-x86-glb.exe). It produced a message that said, "Running update detection, please wait", and then, "The expected version of the product was not found on the system".

How much free space do you have on your PC? SP1 needs 500 MB just to install.
If you don't have it, get CCleaner and use it to clean up your drive, especially deleting temp files, for the service pack writes to the Temp folder. After you clean your drive, try installing the SP again.
But this is getting to be one of those things where you may want to uninstall Office, clean up your PC, re-boot, and then re-install your Office and have it get all the updates right after doing so.

I had 58.2 GB free space before running CCleaner and I have 58.5 GB after running CCleaner. I tried installing the update again after running CCleaner but it still won't install. Meanwhile, yesterday while I was surfing around on the Microsoft sites looking for downloads and solutions, a Microsoft survey site opened and asked a series of questions about what issues I might have, and after I filled it out, a log or something - prompted and created by the survey - was sent to Microsoft. Hopefully they will get back to me with some answers.

Go here and install all the individual updates your system will take and then don't worry about it.

O M Goodness, there are hundreds of updates mentioned on the site. Which ones are supposed to be the right ones? I don't have enough knowledge to know which ones to pick, and if i choose all of the ones with Office 2007 in their title, it will take me ages and a lot of data transfer. (I'm on a limited data transfer package.) There isn't an easier way?

There are 923 search results for Office 2007 updates - impossible task to go through them all and download one by one. It will take me forever. I'll just live with the situation as is. :-(

Thank you Zack Baresse, slurpee55 and Rich-M for your assistance. :-)

That would be SP2. Do you think I will be able to install it, even though SP1 hasn't been installed yet?

I downloaded the 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Sp2 (filename: office2007sp2-kb953195-fullfile-en-us.exe). When I tried installing it, it told me, "The installation of this package failed."
