Solved: Cannot create desktop shortcut
I have a user who can't create a desktop shortcut from the program menu, either by dragging or by right-click send to desktop. There are no error messages, it just won't do it. I am a domain admin and if I log on as myself I am able to create shortcuts without a problem. She is local admin on her computer. We use Windows XP. Any suggestions?

Did this problem just start or has the user never been able to create shortcuts?

Regards,
Rollin

I asked her the same question and she said she couldn't recall if she had created any shortcuts or if we had done it for her. Either way, if we created them, we would have done so under her login, so I believe this is going to be something recent.

I would try creating a new Windows profile for her and then copy her old profile to it.

Rollin, just an FYI update - she has asked that I wait until Wednesday to create a new profile for her as she has quite a lot of stuff in her profile and will probably take a couple hours. I will let you know if that resolves the problem.

Rollin, creating a new profile worked. Thanks very much for your help.
