I am using XP Professional and Office 2003 Business. Most of the computers work properly but the few I am speaking of if you open a document from the C drive it opens immediately. However if I open a networked fileit takes upward from 15 seconds depending on the size of the file.
If anyone else has found a solution to this problem please let me know. I have Googled this problem but have yet to find a solution. | | Distinguished Member with 4,511 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Oregon, United States Experience: I'ma learnin'! | | Hi there, and welcome to the board!
Is this for any networked files? Or just certain files? You should test that. Also, without knowing anything about your network, you should probably look into your network speeds/efficiency. You may have some issues there. Not sure if you're using a server, or any other details. Not really a lot of information to work off of. If you have a network administrator I'd ask them to look at possible latency issues. | | Junior Member with 12 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | Hey Zack,
Thanks for your assistance. This happens with all network files. How do I test the network speed/efficiency? I am using Windows Server 2003. My administrator and myself have both been trying to figure this out. We've also tried uninstalling Office 2003 and reinstalling it. One thing that puzzles me is that I completely deleted Office 2003 from a computer and reinstalled it. When I opened Outlook it resumed as if it were never deleted. Meaning I did not have to setup the email account. I will ask my adminstrator to check for latency issues. If you have any additional information based on this response please let me know. | | Distinguished Member with 4,588 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 1999 Experience: Advanced | | It is most likely the speed of your network. Even on a Domain network managed by the "BIG" boys the files on the network are going to load slower than from the local drive.
The speed is controlled by the hardware and the number of users on the network. The traffic is what is going to be the hardest to figure out, and has the most influence.

But it's just the same computers that have this problem. That's why I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2003. The other networked files seem to be fine just the Office products give us the trouble. | | Distinguished Member with 4,588 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 1999 Experience: Advanced | | I do NOT think that the unsaddling and reinstalling is doing anything to improve it.
What is different hardware wise on these slow machines compared to the faster machines?
Also is there any different "Protection" software on these different machine?
By the way how many is a few compared to most?

As far as the hardware goes most of the computers are identical even the software. When I say a few I mean 5 out of 17. I tried disabling the AV but it still did not help. | | Distinguished Member with 4,588 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 1999 Experience: Advanced | | How many "Clients" are you licensed for on this Windows Server 2003? | | Junior Member with 12 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | | | |
