And thank you for reviewing this post.
I have a PST file (over 2G) created in Outlook 2000. I have copied this pst to a computer with Outlook 2007. It will not open here, either.
So I ran a SCANPST on it from this known good computer. (I ran it on the Outlook 2000 machine 3x with no positive results)
SCANPST will not even complete running on this PST.
So I need some ideas as to what program to run, or how to access data from this PST. The data certainly is not worth spending oodles of dollars to retrieve, but if I could find a free or shareware program that might pull some of the emails from it, I would be perfectly satisfied.
So, my question would be ... can anyone help me access this file with stuff I might already have, or do you know of any free or shareware software that I could use to try to access this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you again and have a wonderful and profitable day.

The file types of PST from 2000 to 2007 are not the same. This is why it's important you use the Import/Export wizard (from the File menu) and not just copy files over, as they're structured differently and you will see different problems (like you're experiencing now). If you copied the file, try using the Import functionality from Outlook 2007, see if that helps any. It would be a good start. Let us know how it goes. Also, Outlook 2007 can accept files (PST) over 2 GB, where it was problematic in earlier versions, hence part of the data file structure change.

Would you please be so kind as to provide further information regareding importing this PST? I have Opened many PST files (which creates a new Personal Folders), but have not imported any .;.....

I'd recommend NEVER just copying over Outlook data files. File | Import and Export... | Import from another program or file | Personal Folder File (pst), then click Browse, find your file, choose your options (i.e. duplicates/replacement) and click Next. Are those options not there for you? If not, please provide screen shots and attach them to your post. | | Member with 79 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Tucson, AZ Experience: Advanced | | Cool, thank you. I ran the import and got an errors detected in my pst; run scanpst.
Thank you for your help. Further suggestions?

I appreciate your time and suggestions .. what do you recommend I do when I get in front of this machine again? I will do so and follow up on this thread then, if that is OK with you.
Have a nice weekend and I hope your team, unless they are the Jets, win.

I'm a big advocate of both the import and export utilities, letting the machine do the work for you. I'd recommend trying to use the actual export utility instead of copying files. Of course, sometimes the files do corrupt, hence backing things up, but let's at least try this first. | | Member with 79 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Tucson, AZ Experience: Advanced | | It just occured to me that I cannot export his PST ... I can't even OPEN it ... is it possible to export it if I cannot access it?
Thank you.

#11 | I think not ... I believe I removed it (named it oldoutlook in folder) and created a new outlook for him .. he was not able to open Ouitlook at all due tot he bad or error-filled PST .. most likley caused by going over 2G (Outlook 2000). His 'new' pst is sending/receiving fine; but we are not able to retrieve his old emails from the corrupted pst. (The one in question here).
I could go to File Open and remap it, but it will not open. And it would not open in its 'original' state, either.
If I can export it after renaming it in the Outlook folder, or by re-opening it from File Open, then I will do so or at least try to do so ... if you still think that is a viable option.
-Again, thank you for your time and information.

#12 | Ooh, I dunno there bud. I'm really not sure. If you can't get the data, and you've exhausted what I know, then I think the next step is some professional software. This is beyond me though. One place you may want to look is the SlipStick.com forums ( http://forums.slipstick.com/), or possibly the Outlook newsgroups. Sorry I can't be of more help. | | Member with 79 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Tucson, AZ Experience: Advanced |
