Outlook Error messages
I get this:
The message could not be sent because it rejected you as the sender. Server
response:"505 MAIL FROM sender and AUTH username do not
match'.(Account:'imap.aol.com', smtp Server:'smtp.aol.com', Error
numberx800ccc78).

I have set up the account in my Outlook 2000 software to imap my aol email.
My operating system is Vista Home Premium.

Any help in how i can correct this error from happening would be greatly appreciated!

First of all, are you able to log into AOL directly to check your email with the same username and password? We need to find out if your username and password are good before trying to determine what is wrong in Outlook.

Yes I am able to login through my browser. I am thinking about reinstalling Outlook 2000. I really have deleted my "aol/outlook" account a few times while trying to fix this.

Has this account ever worked in Outlook Express or is this the first time you have tried setting it up?

Just a quick Q. Is this the first time you will setup your outlook 2000, are you able to sync or dl you mail from this host, are you sure with the uname and pword you provide during the setup, have you double check if this is the correct server add for you outgoing. Cheers.

I removed all outlook files. I then reloaded the Outlook files from the disc. Still not working?
Could it be a corrupt .pst file or something not letting me do this successfully.

hi daniels012, base on your first post the problem is your not authorized. Let stick with it.

The message could not be sent because it rejected you as the sender. Server
response:"505 MAIL FROM sender and AUTH username do not
match'
.(Account:'imap.aol.com', smtp Server:'smtp.aol.com', Error
numberx800ccc78).

You have to check your settings again and .pst is different from this stories.

Try to check the ff:

> Username and Password for the setup.
> smtp default port no is 25, you have to change this to port no 587.

Create a new e-mail account in Outlook 2000
  1. Sign in to AOL.
  2. Open Outlook. If you receive a message to register Outlook as the default manager for e-mail messages, click Yes.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  4. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add, and then click Mail.

  6. In the E-mail address box, type your full AOL e-mail address that includes your screen name followed by @aol.com, and then click Next.
  7. In the E-mail Server Names dialog box, click IMAP on the list.
  8. In the Incoming mail server box, type imap.aol.com.
  9. In the Outgoing mail server box, type smtp.aol.com.
  10. Click Next.
  11. In the Internet Mail Logon dialog box, in the Account name field, type your AOL screen name.
  12. In the Password box, type your AOL password.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Click Connect using my local area network (LAN), and then click Next.
  15. Click Finish.
Configure your AOL e-mail account in Outlook 2000
  1. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click the Mail tab.Note If the Internet Accounts dialog box is not open, on the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  2. Select your AOL IMAP e-mail account.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Servers tab.
  5. In the Incoming Mail server section, make sure your AOL screen name and password are entered.
  6. In the Outgoing Mail server section, select the My server requires authentication check box.
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Click the Advanced tab.
  9. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box, change the port number to 587.
  10. Click Apply.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Close.
Note If you use Outlook to read and send messages from more than one e-mail account, click imap.aol.com – Inbox on the Outlook Bar to access your AOL mailbox.

Cheers!

Ok Followed your list!
I get a new error message now.
I get to the point where I put the 587 in the box and hit "Apply". As soon as i hit apply it gives this error:

The imap store could not be properly updated. You may want to restart Outlook before proceeding. The File C:\Users\Mike Sr\Desktop\TomOutlook.pst could not be found.

My dad may have rearranged a few files here to mess us up?? What can i do here?

Try to locate that .pst file and if you can't find it try creating new one for the new settings.

Note:
The PST (public store) file will be where you e-mail, contacts...will be stored. This file is like a Word document. However, by using POP3 you are responsible for your e-mail. Treat this file with care. IMAP is something different from POP3. Do not store your new .pst file in your desktop, keep it somewhere else that is safe. Cheers!

I found the file. It is in that directory, but obviously does not recognize it, because I get the same edrror message.
Could it be I have a corrupt .pst file?
If so How can I uncorrupt it without losing all my contacts?
I am not doing a POP3 account, I am using an imap account.

Thank you so far on all your help, any ideas for me to go forward?
