 | Member with 46 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Maine Experience: Beginner | | Outlook can't start When I click on Outlook it tells me it 'cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. It cannot open outlook window. Set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected'. It tells me to close it and run the inbox repair tool. When I scan for Scanpst.exe it tells me it can't find it. I didn't realize that I had the problem until Google Calendar couldn't sync. I tried to send a link from the web received the same error message. So when I tried to open Outlook then realized I had the corrupt files.
I've read thru the forums here and also on the Microsoft site. I just bought the laptop in April so I know the pst file isn't too big. Some where I read if my laptop is 64 bit what I was trying wouldn't work and maybe that's the case. I'm not sure what that means.
I bought the Office Outlook 2007 when I bought the laptop and installed it myself. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing seems to help.

The file says Microsoft Outlook Office Personal files. If I click on it it asks me what I want to open it with, if I type in Scanpst.exe it jumps to another screen and it's gone. I hate to be so 'thick'.

I also ran the Office diagnostics from my start menu and then somewhere I found to go into "office tools" and click on Microsoft office applications and click on recovery. I don't have applications in that drop down menu. I even went into add/remove and clicked repair. It had all sorts of errors and couldn't repair.
In looking at the programs I realized that Office 2007 came on the laptop. A free 60 day trial. I bought Office Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager and Office Home and Student 2007. Could the trial version be causing the trouble. Should I delete that? I installed what I bought and never activated the trial.

You need to go to Control Panel, the Uninstall programs and remove the office 2007. You may even may need to remove the copy of Outlook that you installed and reboot. Then try and install your copy of Outlook.

I'll start again in the morning, looking at the links you sent and trying it all again. Thanks for all your help! If you can think of anything else, let me know.

#10 | My issue still isn't fixed. No matter what I type in to scan it says the path can't be found. I've even copied and pasted it so I know it's not a typo. I've also read that I should go to MS office tools, in the drop down, select App List and click on the program that is not responding but the application isn't listed in microsoft tools. I don't know what to try next.
