Saving File Name in Opening menu
When I type a file name or a wildcard, and view / open the file in MSOffice 2007, it is okay. But if I want to open another file (possibly in a different directory) with a similar name / wildcard, then I have to retype the entire detail again. Earlier, in Win 2003, this filename / wildcard used to get saved in "File Name", and I just had to click on the 'down' arrow to reuse the same detail. Kindly Help!!

CPU C2D, OS Win XPP, MS Office 2007

Thanks in advance

Not quite sure what you are saying here. In 2007 you can use the Recent Documents list to open files you've used recently, and you can increase the number of files that will show.

An alternative solution to your problem may be to try something like FolderGuide.

I am a big fan of this little bit of freeware which allows you to open your own 'fave folders' with a right click. This makes navigating to places like:
networkdrive\myfolder\myworddocs\bigsubject\littlesubject\projects\project2
very quick, and you can add and delete shortcuts very simply. So you could set Projects as a FolderGuide shortcut, then you are one click away from the subfolders.

Importantly it works almost anywhere. I.e. on the Start button or on a file dialog box such as a Word File Open.

It is quite surprising that no new posts have come to this solution. It seems that my problem is almost unique. Can I request all members again to help me out.

More info maybe?
Maybe people (like me) were not really sure what your problem does. 2007 behaves in the way you seem to be describing for 2003.

For both File..Open and File..Save As there is a drop down menu which lists recently used files. This appears (to me) to be what you are saying is no longer available in 2007, but it is! So I'm puzzled at your puzzle.

Perhaps if you try restating the problem with more info then people can help more.

What you stated is correct. This drop down menu 'should' retain recently used files, but that does not happen. Only the folder is saved and not the exact file name. For example, if i open a file in say c:\mydocuments\shillguy, then only the c:\mydocuments\ is retained and not the "shillguy" part. Actually what i wanted was that in case i use a file name like shillguy, then I can search that file in multiple folders by just changing the folder in the main window.

I hope I have been able to clarify what I wanted.
Thanks

Hmm, I understand the issue now and that is a puzzle.

On all the machines I have used the Save As dropdown menu contains files with full paths - though I cannot quite figure the relationship between what is used and the MRU. I wonder if this is a registry problem, but other than that I have no ideas I'm afraid.

If I remember right, this drop down list will only show what you have typed in. So if you had typed in the folders and then selected from the list the file, then all it will remember is the folder path.

I do NOT rely these drop down and/or Recants list, as they may disappear at anytime when one cleans their machine.
