Solved: Sudden error on access 2003 form
Hi I use an access 2000 db on machines running mainly access 2003 but also occassionally acccess 2007. I enter the data via a form with value lists. All of a sudden the first row of eaach of the value lists have become underlined and can not be selected - I can select the lower items in the lists but not the first.

Have tried repairing & copying the database into another new database but the problem reccurs in the form. Other forms work okay... is there an error or have i inadvertently chamged something

Please help.

Steven, I have never heard of this problem before, you say that you are using Value Lists, not data held in Tables? So are they List boxes or Combo boxs?
If they are value lists check the first item in each of the value lists to ensure that the Syntax is OK.

Hi OBP

Thanks for responding. The database has been working for about 2 years in its current form. It just started misbehaving for no reason. I don't think I changed anything or even slipped into design view.

They are list boxes, fed by a value list, if I add a dummy item to the value list by preceeding the first item with ";" then I can select all the items but there is still a first item in the list that then is blank and underlined... I don't want to have to do this for the 20 other list boses on the form if I can help it.

Other forms in the same file work okay so I wonder if there is some setting for the entire form that has been inadvertently set.

Any help would be great...

To test if it is the Form, I would create a new very simple List box and see if it has the same problem.
I can't find anything in the Troubleshooting List boxes that matches your problem.
Can you provide me with anything to "play" with?

Hi OBP

That was a good idea...

I discovered that they're combo boxes not list boxes... in the original table - not sure I know the difference or whether this is relevant.

The new Combobox and value list works perfectly... so I guess it isn't a global setting - just one local to all the other boxes!

Any ideas

The other thing to say is that the new text box that works and has options that are selectable does not have a line accross the first row whilst the ones that don't work do... will try and post a screen shot...

Steven

Edit - Errr - Sorry I can't wrk out how to append an image

Just found the problem.... by looking at the new text box you suggested I create and comparing it with all the others, it seems that for all the others the "collumn heading" was set to YES... I don't know how this happenned!! Thanks very much... If anyone has any ideas how this could have happenned would be delighted to hear.

Well done in finding the problem. Sorry for not replying earlier I was researching the problem on Google.
Apparently the SP3 update for Office 2003 can have strange affects on Access Combo and List boxes, so have you downloaded that upgrade?
Although why it would choose just one Form I don't know.
Does anyone have the opportunity to mess with the database?

Wouldn't have fixed it without your suggestion to create a new item on the form. No one else has meddled with the form or the database - its carried on an encrypted stick, but I do wonder if using on different machines may have had this affect... Thanks for you efforts and help - much appreciated.
