Solved: Access 2007 - compact & repair
Does anyone know of a fix to cure the problem "Of unrecogonized database format" after using compact and repair ?

Google seems to throw up the same old articles trying to flog their own repair services.

I don't think that there are any other options, I certainly haven't seen any, it would appear to be imperative to have daily backups taken with Access 2007.
I assume that you have tried all the normal things like trying to inport the data in to another database, reformatting the damaged one to an eariler version etc.

Thank OBP - I had an inkling that this could be a futile search.

The database is not damaged in any sense, it's just a maintenance thing i wanted to do. I've been adding and deleting records from the database and this has bloated the file quite a bit.

I've learnt my leasson of backing up just last week

That error occurs evertime, and will not save to version 2003.

I am so glad I haven't installed Access 2007 even though I have had it about 9 months.

I can not understand why I can not find any reference to this problem through Google. I maybe that my organisation has locked down the ability to update it. I shall try the same thing at home and report back.

I have succesfully compacted and repaired the same database at home using Access 2007. Size reduced from 241Mb to 73Mb. I'm gonna get on my companies IT to sort this. Marking solved.

Tony - I've solved it.

The problem was the I was doing the compact and repair on a file that was over the network.

When the file was copied to the desktop - compact and repair was no problem.

Can you hear the 2007 install calling you?!

Well done, I didn't have that problem with Access 2000 when I was working, so it could be network settings, or that and 2007.
Not just yet, there are too many 2000-2003 users out there needing help.
But it will hav eto come eventually I suppose.
