Hi folks, I have a problem with my excel (2003) icon that I have sort of seen here and in other forums but it's not exactly like mine and wondering if anyone has any ideas.
First understand that excel still functions 100% normal. My issue is purely aesthetic but important nonetheless.
The excel icon in the start menu and in the quick launch toolbar has for some reason suddenly been changed to a "blank" icon. So instead of seeing the green E now it looks like a plain old ".exe" file that doesn't have any icon. Of course the icon still works and excel opens properly when I double click it.
Also the various excel files on my pc now also have "blank" icons (the icon for files that windows doesn't know what program to use to open with). When I double click on them excel opens up but it's the type of icon that I usually when you click on a file with that icon it it says "tell windows what program should open the file" or something like that.....
Of course I tried to change the icon but that option is greyed out when I right click on the icon and go into properties.
I also tried going into the microsoft office folder and finding the excel icon. Its there and actually looks good but the start menu shortcut is not a regular shortcut with a file in a folder as the target. Instead the start menu icon is some super icon who's target isn't a file but just says microsoft office professional 2003.
Let me know what you can come up with. I am trying to avoid repairing the installation.
Thank you.
