Cannot open .docx with IE
When I create or download a document as a DocX,(usually by default), it tries to open with Internet Explorer and it never can. I always have to right click and tell it to open in Word. I get a lot of attachment in this format and want to be able to click and open. Since I can create them, save them and then not be able to click and open them, somethig is not working right.

I do not see why I would need a compatibility pack, these are my documents, I can create them and I can open them in Word. Is this converter necessary in order to use IE?

wyldgrl,

Welcome to TSG!

DOCX are Word files they will not open in IE?

When you right-click the DOCX file select Open With > Choose Program
Select Microsoft Office Word and check the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file box.

Do you know the option to have it save itself this way? I can change one but when ever I make a document in Word and save it or save an email attachment, it always wants to open in a browser by default, I have to right click each and every one after I save it. If I forget, when I go back and click on it, I have to wait through that time while it attempts to open until it lets me click the browser to close, which takes a while too.

When you open another by right clicking the file, you should see a check box to "Always use This program", all you need to do is add the check mark and you will be fixed.

Are you selecting Choose Program and checking the box that says Always use the selected program to open this kind of file?

Selecting these options should set all DOCX files to open in Word.

Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > Files Types and scroll down to find and highlight DOCX in the list of Extensions.

In the Details for 'DOCX' extension section, what does it show for Opens with:?
