annoying word problem
Got a user on the network, uses word as her email editor, word will randomly crash about every 10 minutes or so. Did a complete uninstall of office with revo, dumped all the registry entries, did a clean re-install, problem re-occurs.

Problem is thus: her word app is convinced that the normal.dot that it's supposed to use resides on the network share, and while there is one there, it's locked as it's supposed to be used for special report templates only. I've gone through and customized her templates and add-ons to where they all point to the local template as opposed to the global template, but it will not stay that way. Once you try to close it, it will revert to attempting to save to the global template that is read-only.

I've tried renaming the template her app is trying to save as normal1.dot, but upon re-opening and checking to see where her template is pointing, it's pointing at the network share normal.dot.

I do not understand why it will a, not take the order to use the local template, and b, not take the order to use the renamed template. Again, this is off of a virgin install.

xp with office 2k3. Need to check the sp on it, will do so shortly.

tia,

v
