Conditonal Formatting in 2007 Excel
Does anyone know how to create condtional formatting in excel.

basically, What Im trying to do is if a specifc cell in a row has a certain text for instance "jess", then I want the cell to turn a certain color. Also, within that row, if a cell in that row has value, then I also want those cells to rurn blue otherwise, leave it "no color".

The problem is I have like 7 names that I want to assign colors to. How do I do conditional formatting?

To use conditional formatting, first you need to select the range you want affected. Then from the Home tab, select Conditional Formatting button, Highlight Cells Rules, Equals To. Just type in your text in the left text box, adjust your format to what you want, and click Ok. You can add all 7 names to the same range if you want.

Is that what you're looking for?

Well you'll have to define it a little more than that. Certainly you can't expect us to know what it is you're talking about. What exactly do you want done? Please be specific, which will enable us to be able to give you a working solution.

I think I have understood a bit better, you have one cell and you want the font to be a different colour depending on the value (the name), right?

Anyway, how you do that is select the cell you want to apply formatting to then click conditional formatting from the home tab and select Highlight Cells Rules then click Equal To. In the first box you type what you want it to equal and in the second box you click the drop down and click Custom Formatting. Just select the formatting and repeat for each name.

Hope it helps

Hello to you both:

Okay maybe my explanation is not clear. here goes. I have a worksheet which has differnt columns. I have a row titled "name", " Number", Address" and "order".

Now first I want to be able to type in the name in that column and once I type the name I want the cell to turn to a differnt color for example:
Tony = cell will turn blue, claire = cell will turn gree, etc.

So the other column should still have the blank cell color BUT. what I want is that after I type any value in "Address, number" within the "Tony" row, I also want those cells to turn Blue. But if I those cells are blank, then I want it to have no color.

Does that make sense?

Just add another conditional formatting rule.

Oh right, I think I see, you want any cells in the 'Tony' row to have a different colour as long as they contain a value, and not just highlight every cell with the value 'Tony'?

Although if this is what you are looking for I don't know how to do it, although I bet you could do it through Conditional Formatting.
