Cannot uninstall or repair Office 2000
I allowed PCMover to move apps to my new computer last year. Big mistake! Now I cannot run Office 2000, uninstall Office 2000, repair Office 2000, or reinstall Office 2000. In every case I get the same sequence of error messages: the first asks for the installation source (I have the original CD and I offer it that), then the second rejects the source, saying "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."

I tried running Revo, but it calls upon the Windows uninstaller, so I get the same first error message. In Moderate mode Revo finds more than 25,000 related registry entries to remove; I cannot possibly examine them all, and I'm absolutely sure something else will get hosed if I remove them all.

What can I do? I need to use Word 2000 to test some new documentation software.

You could try removing it using the Windows Installer clean up utility and then re-install

OK, thanks, I downloaded the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility (Msicuu.exe) from the URL you kindly provided, and tried to run it. The first screen in the wizard says "This will remove Windows Installer Clean Up from your machine"! Um, what I need to do is install it, not have it remove itself...?

Well...it appears that Msicuu.exe can do exactly two (2) things: install itself, and uninstall itself. That is all. This is on XP Pro SP3.

The utility should run thru a Wise installer...once installed you would open it up and it should allow you to choose what program you would like to uninstall. A window will open listing every program on your machine that was installed using the Windows installer, which would include MS Office. Choose the Office install from the list and click remove.

If the first screen says it will remove the untility, you must already have it installed. Look for it in the All Programs list and run it from there.

SOLVED: Cannot uninstall or repair Office 2000
Ah...running the utility from the Start menu has a completely different effect from running it by double-clicking its .exe. This time I did get the dialog you described, was able to select Office 2000, and the uninstall must have worked, because I was subsequently able to reinstall it and run MS Word.

Thank you!
