Solved: Font error in numbering bullets inMicrosoft Word 2003
Hi there! Every time I try to number bullets. they do get numbered but in ARABIC Script. All attempts at my own level to change language keyboard etc. have failed. I need a solution badly as I am keying in an article on recipes by my wife.
Attachment shows my problem.

Thanks

I opened your attachment and it looked fine. No Arabic anywhere.

Thanks for your quick response. Does this mean that there is something inherently wrong either in the configuration of my word2003 or there is something in my computer which is making it look like that? My problem persists.
HELP!

Hi novice, welcome to TSG.

What exactly do you mean by Arabic script? Do you mean that it actually converts your text to an Arabic language font? If so, are you in the US? Word doesn't come with an Arabic font pre-installed, so if that's what's happening, have you installed a custom Arabic font?

Or do you mean that it's using Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, etc) instead of Roman numerals?

Is it possible for you to attach a screenshot of what it looks like to you?

arabic fonts in latin doc
Hi WendyM,
Thanks for asking I appreciate your help. Text is in normal roman script but when I execute sequential numbering bullets command the sequential numeral of bullets are Arabic numerals. All my attempts to change the Font for the complex script made through "Format - Bullets and Numbering menu" have been futile. In "Customized numbered list" the font of the numbered format automatically appears as an Arabic Numeral.
I live in Pakistan and I do not use Arabic word processing.
My Microsoft Office 2003 has been loaded with a licensed genuine Microsoft CD. However my Windows XP has been loaded with CD labeled as Wesmosis ver 2.0 and is said to be supported by a Libyan. I have been using this software for the last 3/4 years without any problem of this nature.
I am again attaching an example but a member md2lgyk had reported that it appeared OK on his machine.

Thanks.

1. Obesity Basics
  • What Is Obesity?
  • Obesity is an excess proportion of total body fat. A person is considered obese when pounds over normal weight, has a BMI of 40 or higher, or is sufficiently overweight
  • AS I TRIED PASTING FROM THE DOCUMENT THE NUMBERING HAS BECOME NORMAL. IT IS SO VERY CONFUSING

no it is not normal it has become without numbers as it transferred from my ""quick reply"" to the web.

confusion compounded

Hi novice,
It appears ok for me too, but I'm trying to make sure our "ok" is the same as your "ok". Instead of attaching the document, can you attach a screenshot of what you see? I'm attaching what I see - is this how it looks for you?

Near the top right of your keyboard, you should have a key that says "Print Screen". You can push that and it will take a copy of your screen (to you, it will appear as though nothing happened). Then you can open up Word and right-click and choose Paste to paste the image of your screen into Word. Then attach that file here. Hope that helps.

Thanks novice, that's perfect. It's helpful to see what you're seeing. Have you checked the language settings within Office 2003? If you go to Start/Programs/Microsoft Office and hover over it (or click it), you should see an option for Microsoft Office Tools. If you hover over it (or click it) there should be an option for Language Settings. Click that and then see what languages Office is using. If there are any on the "enabled" side that you don't use, highlight them and remove them. Let us know if that helps.
