Proper Grammar
I keep seeing posts in TSG in which allegedly educated and intelligent people contiue to butcher the English language, either deliberately or unconsciously. A properly structured post with correct spelling and grammar will command more respect and acceptance that one that lacks them. Improperly composed posts also have a higher chance of frustrating the reader and therefore being passed over.

Here is one prime example of words being carelessly used:

There denotes indication of a location. "I am not going to go there.
Their denotes posession. "Their beer glasses were empty."
They're is a contraction of they are. "They're going to go there and fill their beer glasses."

etc., not ect. This is an abbreviation of et cetera.

Also, it is not necessary to use multiple exclamation points to stress excitement, anger or any other emotion. This is not necessary!!!!! This is as annoying as using all capital letters to denote SHOUTING!!!!!!!!

Such slang as "dunno" and "puleeeeese!!!" imply ignorance. It's not "cool" to be ignorant.

Let's take just a moment to compose better posts; the easier they are to read the more likely it is that the point you are trying to make will be read and accepted.

Just hang around with me, babe. With your beauty and my brains we can't lose!

sdc: Your post is a good example. I'm sure youre intentions are honest but many times youre disjointed sentences confuse me and I'm not sure what you're saying.

Mr Mulder: You're a brat!

I agree that proper spelling and grammar is a great plus. It means a great deal to me, and I try always to use the best grammar and spelling of which I'm capable. I believe doing so is both a sign of respect to those reading my words, and goes a long way towards clarity of thought.

However, some people are simply incapable of doing what you request. Take Mulder for example, he has a secretary for such matters at work, but not here, and it shows

I am an artist and my views are abit eclectic, what can I say? I also like to write and am into philosophy ect.
That is just me. I choose to embrace all personalities as individuals
Good point and I could say the same to you but instead I wish to listen as much as I can to all of you
You each could teach me a thing or two!

And that is why I like it here!

I am really not into the bashing, joking yes though

I barely passed my high school English courses. My English is admittedly poor. I think I have a fear of being seen as ignorant or unintelligent so when I compose a post I do so with a dictionary on my desk. Who knows? Maybe I'm just too picky.

Well, to be honest, for me its sheer laziness. I type very fast and don't spellcheck nor grammar check (most times). If that's what I'm required to do to display my intelligence or education, I'd prefer to appear uneducated!

And certainly not an unfounded fear!

Sorry Jim, but you served me up another big fat softball and I cannot resist knocking it out of the park!

For another example, see pyrite's quote above, and see if you can pick out the bad spelling??

Sorry dude, you set yourself up with that one......
