Is This So?
Have just been watching a BBC World special documentary about the "Patriot Act" in the USA - passed (understandably) shortly after 9/11 - but until only recently NBC - CNN and other networks did not know about this act!!! 98% of Americans interviewed by the BBC knew nothing of the Act

Minnesota University
Oakland University Being monitored by Satellite

FBI - people on a "No Fly" list including a three year old baby?????

Now I am not a Bush supporter - but a Bush Administration supporter - yes - as in the UK one can be a Labour supporter but not support Tony Blair !!!

Just wonder if our friends over there feel that their freedom and the right of the 1st amendment is being gradually eroded

Regards - Oldie

Hi oldie,

you could even go Here

and read about the attempt to pass the Patriot Act 2. Included are problems that have arisen with the first act and the players that are responsible for the infringement on our liberties and civil rights.

I see what you mean guys and I did not wish to stir up a past thread - It was the simple fact that BBC World (Panorama Team) only showed the doc today 31 October 2003 and I was a wee bit scared of what they implied in the documentary - because at the risk of sounding patriotic - I do have a certain respect for the factual reporting by the BBC

Would a Mod kindly close this thread on my behalf

Many thanks - Oldie

Some of us have been complaining and emailing our elected officals before it even passed!

Factual Reporting
Taking Liberties? (r)
A look at the USA's new surveillance society since the terrorist attacks on 9/11. But is the country sacrificing civil liberties in the name of national security?
