The CIA's World Factbook
I was browsing the web, looking for information on China, and came across this website. It is an excellent quick search site for information on virtually any nation on Earth.

Hmm....quick fact: China: Military manpower - availability:
males age 15-49: 375,520,255 (2003 est.)

More than a third of a billion; that's scarey.

PC........We have used it here many a time. Usually when I'm shoving facts in DN's face about this or the other.

Note on China, per World FactBook, China can't grow enough food to sustain its own population. More importantly, its losing tillable land at an accelerated rate meaning the food problem is only going to get worse. Paq and I have had discourse over the significance of this.

Well, I know it's trendy to call America the world's only superpower but that many available for duty is a little thought-provoking. I know their equipment isn't cutting edge technology but I do consider them a sleeping giant. It would be disasterous for any nation, including the States, to pi$$ them off. I think the only reason that they are not considered more of a threat is that they have been traditionally introspective and isolationist.

Yes I suspected that. It must be a prime motivator in their "one baby per family" law.

The fact that nearly 85% live in poverty and some regions of China have yet to get electric power. The most of the people won't have the will to fight. Most of the Chinese much like the rest of the world want to be left alone to live their lives as they want to. Fact that China does not have the resources to fight a prelonged battle with massive amounts of such military manpower is one thing we and the world can count on plus they do not have the machinery to move such a massive military. You must also count the insurgents within China that if given the chance would topple their own goverment. So they make up for it by having a nuclear deterent. In the event of such attacks you are thinking of the world would be at its end. 99% of the population of China does not want war with the world. They only want their lives to improve. The majority of the people of this small planet do not want war no more than you do. The small percentage that does cannot even comprend a large scale war and would not know how to fight it. For what it is worth go set in a Marine chopper and look at the manufacture date most will say pre-1968. The US military is aging and equipment replacement is not picking up.

Extra: The Chinese need to demand the same wages we were paid for the jobs thay now have. This would be interesting.

The same can be said of America. It's the 1% I'm worried about!

Ahem. . . as usual GB has his facts all wrong when he says that HE is the one that commonly quotes the CIA factbook to me. The thread “Would you support a WAR! On Iraq?” has the most recent exchange between GB and myself wherein the CIA factbook is mentioned (by me!).

GB quotes William Buckley, who in turn quotes that illustrious group, the Strategic Forecasting Intelligence unit of Texas. Whereupon I replied by mentioning the reality as stated in the CIA factbook.

DN.........My capitalist challenged friend. I posted an article by Buckley, who, in part, quotes SFI. And who is SFI? A company that provides intelligence information to private companies, executives even governments. Its staffed by former members of the CIA, you know, the guys who write the CIA WorldBook.

Funny how you failed to quote or link to the thread about your beloved Norway and its rapidly declining oil industry. As I recall I posted a few "facts" from the CIA WorldBook to shoot down your dreamy eyed view of the socialist nirvana known as Norway.
