Anything but america
I thought that in this election year a thread that don't involve usa politics would not go amiss (watch how quickly it drops out)

But there are hundreds of countries having problems, and they're all being swamped

so here is somewhere that we can discuss world politics that does'nt involve usa and ask questions that would not normally be answered without bias.

To start it off, I'll start with europe.

Will Mandelson make a good European? and should his live in lover receive all the benefits that a wife would?

Also what about the Formosa question?

Don't forget this is not from a usa point of view

Valid point, barfly. Have so much fun attacking the Bushies, forget sometimes that there are really important issues out there, such as one's live-in-lovers rights!

Hi Barfly!

I AM CANADIAN. there.

I understand your point. They even have cute names for them... 'Bushies'?? IMHO, Much ado about which yokel gets to dance the dance.

A big choice between two.
However, there aren't many who understand binary.

Barfly, if Mandelson ever makes a good European je vire ma cutille and I stop drinking wine!
Can an Englishman be a good European anyway? And what does it mean "to be a good European"?

I think the purpose is anything but U.S. politics.
BTW, by the converter I'm using, there is only one 01110101 in 'purpose'.

To answer the question would Peter Mandelson make a good European, my simple answer is no.

EU Commissionaires are unelected and normally tend to be political failures, who have been rewarded to keep their mouth's shut!

Examples? Leon Brittan, Chris Patton, Neil Kinnock and his wife Gllynis, to name but a few.

Mandelson has demonstrated, quite clearly, both his incompetence and dishonesty, on at least two occasions.

One of my closest friends was a committed Lib Dem. He fought his area of Colchester in a general election some time ago, having served his time as a Councillor etc. He took the largest ever Lib Dem vote in a staunch Tory majority. He has an excellent first degree (Hons) in Modern languages, speaks fluent French, Italian, passable Spanish, Portuguese and German, has an MBA from City University Business School (one of the best!) in International marketing, is married with three wonderful, talented kids and if this is not enough, served in the Fleet Air Arm (Sea King recovery choppers) with Randy Andy, the Duke of Pork, sorry York. An all round very nice and capable guy.

He wanted to become a Lib Dem MEP, however the party selectors decided that they needed more women ( ) and instead, selected a dumb bunny with no language skills.

No wonder it is such a disaster.

Still for Mandy, it's about £200K per annum, you can double that with "expenses", plus with all the other perqs say about half a mill a year.

Not bad for a complete dipstick!

The EU is the World's biggest paradox: it is a political edifice, ruined by politics. The ethos is excellent, theoretically, but the reality sucks!

Not a bad idea for a thread, but you started with Europe, which is a continent not a country.

As for which has the best looking women, I would have to say Spain.

Obviously you folks haven't visited any Southern California beach on a hot, sunny, summer day.

But I guess we're excluding America in this thread. So why even bring up women?

Unless you kinda like that hairy armpit thing.
