Chaos in Iraq
Front page of the paper today: Photo of a meeting of the delgates to the Iraqi Conference on Election Plan-----It sums up the situation perfectly---One delegate yelling at another delegate, people in every conceivable type of clothing---suits, military uniforms, turbans, robes etc---Its total chaos! This is the country, or should I say the labratory in which Bush and his fellow members of the Junta intend to use for the grand experiment of Nation Buidling! Is this really happening?

Decent analogy--but sausage is fairly simple to make---although the process is probably messy---Democracys are very difficult to make--In fact some people would say that you can't make them--that they evolve slowly in distinct step under very specific conditions.

re: the chaos....much of what you pointed out about the photo is appearances, and i personally like it (what came to mind was..."its a GOOD thing they're not all wearing suits")

still, everybody's right here, the development of democracy is a process, and you have to let it run....i can't help but wonder how the factions in iraq would work this out if one faction didn't have an overlord with an agenda....

makes the whole concept of a "democracy" a farce, imo
