Republicans are GOONS!
So Kerry says that we don't need people dividing up the nation. Then he goes on to thank the Goons for coming out to fire them up. What the heck is that?

Well, let's see--LAN is a GOON, and LAN is a Republican, so I guess you could say that Republicans are GOONS!

Although for the life of me I have no idea what this thread is about! Does anyone else?

To repeat what others have said, requires education; to challenge it, requires brains.

I'm just saying that anyone who supports their country in one way or another be it Democrat or Republican does not deserve to be called a goon or anything like that. If Kerry can say that about citizens who actually care about their country and what happens to it, he obviously has little respect for nearly half the nation. Why should we elect someone like that to President?

I guess you've missed the contempt that GW and his cronies have for this country.

Kerry's exact words were " 'I want to thank George Bush for sending the goons here tonight to excite us to do a little more work'..."

Kerry Reaches Out to Disaffected Republicans

The Dallas Morning News

LA JUNTA, Colo. - John Kerry is taking some heat from local Republicans during his cross-country campaign swing, but that's only fair - Kerry is visiting mostly Republican areas.

Most of his stops have been in towns or counties that President Bush carried in 2000, reflecting Democratic hopes that the shaky economy and the Iraq war will spawn a species of "Kerry Republicans."

"This is not a question of Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative," Kerry said over the weekend in Otero County, Colo., which Bush carried four years ago with nearly 56 percent of the vote. "It's a question of common sense." Invading the other guy's turf is a time-honored political tradition. But some analysts believe Kerry has a chance to pick up a few votes because of conservative dissatisfaction with free trade, record budget deficits and continuing violence in Iraq.

Bush supporters, however, said it's nonsense to suggest that the Massachusetts Democrat can get conservative votes, given his proclivity for higher taxes, stricter regulations and bigger government. "John Kerry can travel anywhere he wants to," Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said. "But the simple fact is his record is not very appealing to Republicans and conservatives."

Kerry aides said they hope to attract all kinds of voters, though hecklers chanting "four more years" during the bus, boat and train tour seem unlikely to switch. Instead, the campaign is targeting certain kinds of moderates and self-proclaimed conservatives: those who backed Bill Clinton but switched to George W. Bush four years ago.

Seeking to bring back some of these folks, Kerry has adopted a number of arguments during his national tour. They include: Bush is more radical than conservative. In his stump speeches, Kerry says "there is nothing conservative" about piling up debt through record budget deficits, the "rush to war" in Iraq, or enforcement of the Patriot Act under Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Republicans, reclaiming the conservative mantle, said Kerry's default response to deficits is higher taxes. They also pointed out that Kerry voted for the Patriot Act and potential military action in Iraq, yet turned against both for political reasons. I'm more like you than you realize. Putting a premium on stops in rural areas, Kerry stresses his agreement with conservatives on certain cultural issues.

He cites his Vietnam combat experience, describes himself as a "man of faith" and emphasizes that he is a hunter who believes in gun owners' Second Amendment rights. Prodded by local reporters, Kerry said he supports same-sex civil unions but opposes gay marriage.

Republicans say many voters equate civil unions with gay marriage. They also point out that Kerry defies Catholic doctrine by supporting both gay rights and abortion rights, including late-term abortions, and earned an F rating on gun issues from the National Rifle Association. I'm the real uniter; Bush is the divider.

Kerry and running mate John Edwards accuse Republicans of seeking to divide America by pushing contentious social issues - such as a ban on gay marriage -and negative attack ads. Kerry said he would reach across party lines, frequently citing his friendship with GOP Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Speaking in Grand Rapids, Mich., hometown of former Republican president Gerald Ford, Kerry said: "Some people want to divide America into red states and blue states. I don't; I want America to be red, white and blue all the time!"

Republicans said Kerry and the Democrats have been the negative ones, accusing Bush of lying to the nation about the Iraq war and other conspiracy theories associated with Sept. 11 and the war on terrorism. When Bush supporters chanted "four more years" during a Kerry rally last week, the Democratic candidate called them "goons."

Wife Teresa Heinz Kerry said the Bush backers "want four more years of hell!" Mocking Democratic claims of a "positive" campaign, Bush pollster Matthew Dowd said: "They got lost on the high road."

(GOON) A hockey term, referring specifically to a type of player whose primary function is to defend his teammates with physical violence from other goons.
