did I just hear that right
Just watching c-span on tv this morning and congressman Cris Shays is on and he just said. I was a conscientious objector during the Viet nam war but I consider anyone who served in Viet Nam a hero. Sounds more like I wanted to keep my *** safe objector.

Only 2.8 million soldiers served in Vietnam over the 25 years.
There were more than 9 million deferments at the same time, many of them going to people in the Bush administration.

Of course we never talk about the ones "who got away" in that they make up the cream of American society and business: like the more than 800 members of Congress who did not serve over the same period of time ('59-'75).

Question them, see how many were courageous conscientious objectors or just "privileged" (read: "connected")

I know there were a lot of deferments. My problem was that while he was conscientious objector he considers those who served to be heros. A MUCH over used word lately btw. If he thought it was wrong why would he think it was heroic of those who served

I wonder how many Democrats were objectors. Could it be that the coorelation here has to do with money and wealth or perhaps real objection, and not political party? Naaah. Too logical to make sense

Perhaps he still has gratitude and respect for those who lay their lives on the line so that we can sit here and make it look like every single one of those 9 million objectors was pro-Bush, as if they've been plotting for the 2004 election since Vietnam...

Nah, too many of those objectors were usually the smart ones and we sure as hell can't lay that attribute on Bush supporters.

.Now that makes some kind of sense in that "Liberal" war dissenters have always plotted against the likes of Dubya (the dumb) Yalie Cheerleader and their transparent political aspirations-yeah, makes sense.

Ed, your posts in this thread is a lot like meringue:
Lots of air and not much substance.
