Cool The State of Insanity
I know a few will politicize this, but I thought there needed to be a thread dedicated to truly insane concepts, whether Democrat or Republican, Conservative or Liberal and anything inbetween.

I'll start it off with the Fruit and Nut state of California:

Reuters

Quote:
Court Says Whales, Dolphins Cannot Sue Bush

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The world's whales, porpoises and dolphins have no standing to sue President Bush over the U.S. Navy's use of sonar equipment that harms marine mammals, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, widely considered one of the most liberal and activist in the country, said it saw no reason why animals should not be allowed to sue but said they had not yet been granted that right.

"If Congress and the President intended to take the extraordinary step of authorizing animals as well as people and legal entities to sue they could and should have said so plainly," Judge William A. Fletcher wrote in an 18-page opinion for the panel.

The lawsuit was brought against Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on behalf The Cetacean Community -- defined as the world's whales, porpoises and dolphins -- by their self-appointed lawyer, marine mammal activist Lanny Sinkin.

Sinkin claimed in the lawsuit that the U.S. Navy had violated the Endangered Species Act with its use of long range, low frequency sonar that can cause tissue damage and other injuries to marine mammals.

Sinkin could not be reached for comment on the 9th Circuit's decision, which upheld a lower court ruling.

This just shows what idiots they are--they think animals should be allowed to sue. Is that ridiculous or what? Although these liberals keep me in business because they love all kinds of lawsuits!

Next up: aeroplanes aren't allowed to fly because the birds sue them for getting sucked into the engines.

That would do it. A class action lawsuit by a hundred thousand dead geese!
I think that nut Larry has an interesting point, but he's a dumb *** if he thinks the whales would benefit from a settlement. If he felt the Navy was violating the endagered species act, why couldn't he press the defence department for a hold on their sonar testing? I don't know what kind of legal action he could pursue, but there must be a channel for environmental wackos to appeal.
I wonder what currency dolphins trade in anyway.

i'm thinking the entire family of great apes should sue the scientific community for their theory of evolution...the 95th percentile genetically, and they didn't even get a stinkin t-shirt

while they're at it, they could sue the church for denying them a soul.

Are the whales the nuts or the fruitcakes in charge of CA the ones you are upset with?

What about the piece I posted earlier about the Parks Department refusing to remove a book from their Grand Canyon shop that claims that the Canyon was created by the Flood! Now if that isn't insane, I dont know what is.

Just as long as it is in their 'Fiction' section, I'm all for it.

I understand they have satellite images that suggest the ark may be covered by rock on the north rim of the Grand Canyon - Looking in the wrong area of the planet all these years - the new 'cradle of civilization', Sedona, AZ.!

Perhaps this looks crazy but is a ploy to raise awareness and put our Navy on notice for their total lack of caring about this problem?

you have a President that puts the all mighty buck (the wrong type) over everything else. Even if this is crazy it still adds some attention to the killing and maiming of these Ocean treasures. Besides the notion of voting Republican to me is far more absurd!

I oppose the use of active sonar in training exercises, but that is as much because it is a bad idea in general as because it is harmful to sea animals. Unless you are in a helicopter with a 'dipping' sonar, or an aircraft with listening bouys, you don't usually want to use active sonar, because it will tell everyone where you are! And for a sub or against one, that isn't a good thing.
