New targets returing to Iraq
Iraqi Baby Girl Returning Home

Nice, soft targets for the friends of Al Firdaus.
They obviously fit into the definition of fair target according to Al.
It's no wonder they have to sheild the father's identity.

Before;

After; (after most of the successful surgery)

DAYTON, Ohio — A 14-month-old Iraqi girl who received free treatment in the United States for a possibly fatal growth in her neck began the trip home Tuesday, about six months after her parents brought her to a U.S. military base in her homeland.

Fatemah Hassan and her mother took off from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on a cargo plane. Maj. Ted Theopolis, spokesman for the 445th Airlift Wing, said the child would be flown to Ramstein Air Base in Germany before returning to Iraq.

Fatemah was diagnosed with a large hemangioma, a dense group of blood vessels that grows abnormally large, sometimes so large that it can restrict an airway. When her parents brought her to the gates of the U.S. base in Iraq in April, Fatemah was blue from lack of oxygen.

Lawmakers helped arrange for the child to receive free medical care and travel to the United States. She was treated at Columbus Children's Hospital with high doses of steroids.

What a beautiful child.

Well, there you go, it's no wonder the world hates us!! We're monsters! Monsters all!

In all seriousness, sometimes I'm amazed that I can still be surprised at the good works done by our service-people, but I take heart that they will continue to find ways to make me respect them even more!

Not even a single comment over 4 hours from someone on the left saying that this is a good thing?

And how many kids were deliberately gassed by Saddam in Halabja?

Lan, it's not a contest--However, dont throw a singular picture in my face that shows me some kid that got whisked away for surgery when I have seen so many pictures of kids killed by our waging urban warfare. It doesn't play with me. By the way, also factor in that many Iraqi kids are facing malnutrition because of this war.

Yes, it is a contest, in fact it's two.

The first is to cripple or kill the enemy, even if he hides among the innocent, because our first obligation is to our own safety and security.

The second is to demonstrate that we are not the enemy, that we have not declared every man, woman and child a legitimate target.

When I first read this thread, I saw the story as nothing more than testament to the honor among our soldiers, now I see it as a path to victory.

Thank you for pointing that out.

Well--can you explain to me collateral damage from air strikes on insurgent gathering places that happen to kill innocent childen. If you are going to tell me that this has not happened, then you are not being honest. Oh--so you kill kids to prove that you aren't the enemy. Thats rather bizzare and it's not working---Many Iraqis are now yearning for the return of Sadaam Hussein--thats how much we have mucked up the country. Very poor planning, no strategy to win the peace. Today, John McCain called for the administration to send an additional 50,000 troops--Oh yeah, he is a liberal.

this thread is sadly perfect for this conflict....as a society, we obviously care, and this little girl is a testament to that fact....as is, in fact, our polarization

but this little drop of a kid will nowhere near fill the bucket of anyone's hopes or dreams....she will be a tiny success in a struggle that may kill some of her friends, a little ray of light in what has got to be a nightmare for the iraqi people, and a small message that shows we do care, in spite of a great deal of evidence that points in a variety of less compassionate directions.

my hopes, as always, are just that as many as possible get out alive.

Oh we care--its Bush and the administration who dont give a damn. If they did, they never would have invaded the country. They would have found another way to off Sadaam rather then ascribing to some sick geo-political theory that makes absolutely no sense.

That should have been his campaign slogan, "Not as bas as Saddam"!

It's really very simple. As I mentioned before, I heard some mainstream Iraqi's--so called moderates inteviewed on the radio. All said the following: They were glad to be rid of Sadaam but now they want him back! Why, because with Sadaam they knew where they stood---and could therefore do what was necessary to avoid things that would get them in trouble. Under the occupation, their country is the wild west--totally out of control, high unemployment, fear on every corner. From their persepective, the occupation has been a total failure.
