Report Indicts Administration's Policy
This is a report that was released the evening before Thanksgiving (I wonder why?) that was requested by Paul Wolfowitz (Deputy Secretary of Defense and the architect of our policy towards the Middle East) for Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld. It is a seering indictment of our foreign policy and the way this adminsitration has butchered the war against terrorism. I doubt very few right wingers will read this because it would force them to confront the basic lie they have been living. THis is for those of you who are concerned enough about the future of this country to peruse and comment on.

Bump--READ THIS--I know it takes time but it is the self-indictment of the Bush administration. If the liberal press is so powerful, then why the hell isn't this trumpted across the airwaves?????

good post jack....i browsed through to recommendation 5....the formation of the Center for Strategic Communication, mandated and supervised by congress, with input by dod and state. its mission would be, among other things, to spread humanitarian ideals, including self determination and individual dignity

basically, it appears to recommend a whole bunch of money to repair the damage that's been done by budget cuts since 1990.....so the good news for bush is that, strictly speaking, its not all his fault, AND he has the opprotunity to help stop the bleeding.

c'mon, mr. president, pick up the pieces.....

Iltos, not sure if you saw this part---It essentially said that our policy towards Muslims is based on a false premise--that Muslims hate our Freedom---What Muslims seem to hate is our foreign policy, particuarlarly vis a vis our support of tyrants and our support of Israel.

no...i don't remember that specifically, but it hits the nail on the head, don't it? while i will never condone the actions of terrorism, i personally take little issue with their anger....like the lengthy and often tragically violent behavior between the israelis and the palestines, the means that all terrorists choose to promote their agenda only mire the situation in the very thing they are fighting against.

its is fundamentally irrational, depending, as it does, on issues of self-righteous faith carried to the furthest end of the spectrum....

i suppose that the center for strategic communication could easily be seen as nothing more that a vast (and finally well funded) propoganda machine....but its intents are direct, and even, i dare say, noble.....education and community

even if it never realized its full potential, america could benefit from a delivering a message of understanding that wasn't supported by a tank

Yup--these guys went against their boss--that is why the report was released Thanksgiving eve--If it was a regular news day then it probably would have got some play.

111 pages will take a bit to get through. Will report my feelings after I have read them all.

CB, thanks for reading it--it seems to be a report that one can't write off as partisan. This is a Defense Department sub agency and Wolofowitz requested the report for the President.
