A New Third Party
Due to the rising dissatisfaction among the ranks of my fellow countrymen and women regarding our choices of a true Leader w/in our current political parties, I hereby and duly somlely announce the start of a new party. Yes, fellow TSG'rs, you hereby have the honour of being witness to the start of a new era. A new day is coming over yonder horizon, a day filled with the potential, the opportunity for all of us to shed the shackles around our necks that have been placed by the parties that have led us astray; yes, I speak of them both, the party that has no memory [Elephants] and the party filled with the cross of a mule and horse [Donkeys {hey, gotta keep this PG-13! }].

Together, we shall arise from the despair, the dismal ineptness of our current state affairs, and [insert patriotic orchestral music here...] help to create a strong, vibrant nation. One filled with citizens who will deeply care more about the our environment, future, society, and education, than about whether some bubble-gum cute girl can sing at a college football bowl game .

Now, we need (a) a party name, (b) a animal character for the editorial cartoonists to associate us with, (c) cheerleaders [yea, sexy ones!], (d) and (d) funds to help us spread the word around our fair country of our ambitions, goals, and forthcoming mandate. [make note, need one of those... yea.]

For more info, until we have our own page, please visit http://www.geocities.com/donaldjhagen/humoroustest.html to help tune yourself to our plans, motives, and the such. For example, here is one question - and I foresee our new party following close to the Libertarians in this, whereas we shall combine the best of the Conservative, the Liberal, and the Libertarian, mixing such in a bowl, shaking it twice, and then coming up with our new platform...

81: What 1960's predictions about the future are you deeply saddened did not come true?
CONS: Atomic power never became so plentiful and inexpensive it could be given away for free.
LIBL: The Earth did not run out of crude oil.
LBRT: Clothing-optional beaches never really become mainstream.
COMM: The world's workers never established communist governments in every nation on Earth.

Fellow TSG'rs, I salute you in your help. Your ideas, donations, and thoughts are appreciated. Thank you. Soon, my swiss bank account will be open and ready to accept your pay-pal donations for our cause. Please stay tuned. Like a piano. Not a fish. Nope, don't want any mindless tunas here.

PS: of course, I really really do like the Liberatarian's take on this question:
66: The speed limit should be...
CONS: 75 MPH on Interstate highways.
LIBL: reduced to 15 MPH to save lives, and resources.
LBRT: abolished. This will result in an immediate 50 percent reduction in highway fatalities, because a motorist barreling along at 150 MPH only spends half the time exposed to the hazards of the road, as someone plodding along at 75 MPH. [how many times has the hobbes used this line when a cop has pulled him over... ]
COMM: irrelevant, because after the revolution everyone will commute in public transportation

Also, here is this quiz... http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html

Me, I came in as a:
CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

And taking this quiz, found Green and Reform parties best fit:

I came in as a:

CONSERVATIVES tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional values." They oppose excessive government control of business, while endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.

(no surprise there!)

and:

1) Constitution Party 85%

I hate to say it Hobbes, but I don't think I'll be joining your third party , but that link was really funny! Thanks!

i came in as a right leaning libertarian , mostly, methinks, 'cause i am such a big believer in personal responsibility.....

funny, tho....i voted green in november

taking all this into consideration, i think the albatross should be the political animal that best represents this party (if you'll take me, hobbs)

the albatross is gangly and cumbersome before it takes off, and needs LOTS of room to spread its wings....but once its in the air, it is boundless.....

either that or a pelican, cause it's not afraid to get all wet.

I came in as:

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and
economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one
that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.
Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose
government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate
diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

There were no 'maybe's' in my responses - it's either black or white - the extreme left is offset by the extreme right on individual issues. I would willingly join and/or vote for a third party ONLY to the extent it will not put another Republican in office in 2008 - I will not vote for another right-winger in my lifetime - their vicious hatred of anyone that does not walk lockstep agreeably with their agenda, overt intolerance, covert hypocrisy, false patriotism and dogmatic religious zeal makes me want to puke.

iltos - like that suggestion regarding the albatros...

I had something more like a black labrador in mind: a loyal, faithful, companion, one that will always be by your side in all times, good and bad, and can also help those in need when such times arise, besides providing protection from those that will attempt harm.

But, like your thinking on the birds...

Middle of the road, at least until a libertarian comes along doing 150mph, then road kill.
