More Dirty Politics by GOP
This appeared in the New York Post, a very conservative rag in NYC. I give them credit because at least they have the backbone to stand up against this kind of crap.

THE N.Y. GOP'S ATTACK LEMMINGS

February 19, 2005 -- New York's GOP is suffering from a string of defeats and other woes, but that's no reason for it to get desperate — and jump off the political cliff.

It seemed to be doing just that last week — when the new Republican state chairman, Steven Minarik, attempted to smear the entire Democratic Party as terrorist-sympathizers of the Lynne Stewart variety.

GOP leaders not only refused to back down from the smear, but went on to distribute a bogus photo purportedly showing Stewart as a Democratic activist. The ploy became worse than ridiculous.

And backfired big-time.

Minarik's first mistake came Monday, when he was commenting on the recent conviction of Stewart, a radical lawyer, on terrorism-conspiracy charges, and on the selection of Howard Dean as Democratic National Chairman.

"The Democrats simply have refused to learn the lessons of the past two election cycles," Minarik said.

"Howard Dean is the personification of today's national Democratic Party — elite, radical, out-of-control and, sadly, out of touch with ordinary Americans. Now they can be accurately called the party of [Calif. Sen.] Barbara Boxer, Lynne Stewart and Howard Dean."

We agree that Democrats have far to go to earn folks' trust on national-security issues. Tapping Dean as their leader does little to help them in that regard. And, without a doubt, there are plenty of radicals on the left (just as there are on the right).

But it's a bit much, to say the least, to lump the whole party in with a loathsome traitor like Stewart: A jury found that she had criminally abetted her client, Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, in passing information to his terrorist lieutenants.

For one thing, as Gov. Pataki rightly noted, "The Democratic Party doesn't have anything to do with Lynne Stewart."

On Wednesday, Dean called for either an apology from Minarik or his resignation, a request Minarik dismissed as another "Dean scream."

That was when the picture showed up.

Minarik & Co. gave the photo to The Post, claiming it showed Stewart with Jesse Jackson, Michael Moore and some Democratic pols at a protest during last summer's GOP convention.

This, we presume, was somehow meant to show that Dems are all like Stewart.

Only one problem: The woman in the photo wasn't Lynne Stewart. Oops.

In trying to score rhetorical points, Minarik and his minions are now making Howard "The Scream" Dean and his fellow Dems look moderate.

And that ain't easy to do.

Minarik needs to rein in his tongue, take his own advice and himself start learning "the lessons of past . . . elections." Like the fact that the state GOP has been mounting impressive losses lately.

Sure, the GOP is a tough sell here: Dems outnumber Republicans by some 2 million in New York. But linking Dems to Stewart has only made the Republican Party look foolish.

Is it true that Dean has asked Kennedy to switch to whisky instead of vodka so the people will know that he is just drunk instead of stupid. However after listening to him there appears to be no difference. But after listening to the top dems they all should all start drinking cheap whisky and shake their heads

So you guys are gonna tell me Lynne Stewart was a Republican?

Hahahahahaha! The only foul up here is misidentification, makes the GOP in NY look like idiots for not realizing it wasn't her.

How about that paper in the UK who did a handwriting analysis of Tony Blair, saying downright bogus things, that turned out to be Bill Gate's handwriting! (Wonder how accurate that analysis was, so critical of the richest self-made man in the world.)

Politics! Dirty politics! You guys seem so shocked and disgusted when political smearing occurs. You don't want to know what its like to be a Bush supporter on most issues, lol!

If I posted every slanderous/untrue/stretched thing said about him, I imagine I could fill this forum pretty quick...

He's bringing back the draft, hes in it for the oil, he still does coke! he conspired against the country and ordered 9/11!!!, he's crazy and thinks God talks to him!...

Lynne Stewart might support Democrats instead of Republicans?! Now that's downright slander!!

*kiddin' with ya'll*
