No, Chrysler made a conventional turbine powered car that ran on a variety of fuels from kerosene to peanut oil http://www.barracudamagazine.com/turbine.html
You are probably confusing the Lear attempt to produce a steam powered turbine car.
Lear, of Lear Jet fame lost much of his fortune on the failed attempt.
It however needed a fuel source to generate heat needed to turn water to steam. That source was petroleum as I remember.

#33 | Petrol prices in the UK are crippling I run 2 vehicles my average weekly fuel bill is ridiculous, mind you we sit in traffic for hours wasting fuel, I live right next to the M25 (Chris Rea......The road to hell)
I have seen the new Hydrogen powered car at a car show some time ago, I believe they are are nearly ready to mass produce them, not cheap though I bet. Not sure of the exact process but.......read on Electrolysis can be reversed. Combining hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell produces electricity, and the only emission from a car powered by a fuel cell is water; hardly a noxious pollutant. The driver of a vehicle powered by a fuel cell fills his tank with hydrogen, switches on the engine and drives off. Burning hydrogen with oxygen from the atmosphere, the fuel cell feeds electricity to the motor and the hydrogen tank holds enough gas for a long journey without frequent topping up. | | Distinguished Member with 32,915 posts. | | |

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
"Many phenomena - wars, plagues, sudden audits - have been advanced as evidence for the hidden hand of Satan in the affairs of Man, but whenever students of demonology get together the M25 London orbital motorway is generally agreed to be among the top contenders for Exhibit A.
Where they go wrong, of course, is assuming that the wretched road is evil simply because of the incredible carnage and frustration it engenders every day.
In fact, very few people on the face of the planet know that the very shape of the M25 forms the sigil odegra in the language of the Black Priesthood of the Ancient Mu, and means 'Hail the Great Beast, Devourer of Worlds'. The thousands of motorists who daily fume their way around its serpentine links have the same effect as water on a prayer wheel, grinding out an endless fog of low-grade evil to pollute the metaphyisical atmosphere for scores of miles around.
It was one of Crowley's better achievements. It had taken years to achieve, and had involved three computer hacks, two break-ins, one minor bribery and, on one wet night when all else had failed, two hours in a squelchy field shifting marker pegs a few but occultly incredibly significant metres. When Crowley had watched the first thirty mile long tailback he'd experienced the lovely warm feeling of a job well done.
It had earned him a commendation."

Of course we'll all have to just ignore those 500 cars that they are now using hydrogen with, because our resident Einstein Alex has assured us that the "technology has not yet become efficient enough" to build even one car
...and you are right Chris, hydrogen is the future Unfortunately we in the states won't see it for probably 30-40 years because of all the oil lobbyist | | Distinguished Member with 39,518 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2002 Location: Dayton,Oh |

Had one. Safety did not seem to be a selling point for Ford at that time.......
