It would surprise me if the company that hosts the blog doesn't have a way to deal with this - at least an ability to block certain IPs. For example, if you visit a website I develop, I can get your IP address, your OS, your browser, your user name, among other things. There is enough personal info to block your access from a single computer (even with a dynamic IP). Otherwise, depending on how much you know about the miscreant, an experienced hacker (ahem ) could send him a message For example, you could include a link in your blog that might redirect him to a site I could develop to gather info - If you think it's serious enough to do so.

I worry about young women leaving too much personal info online. There are a lot of wacko's out there.

I don't leave personal info online. Do any of you know my last name? Probably not. The only people who do are IK (since there has been procreation) and Ciber (he's mailed me stuff ). Most people I know in real life don't even know my last name.

I have thought about going to Blogger about it, but they are so huge and this person has not threatened me. I mean, can you imagine if they went after every insulting anonymous comment? There wouldn't be any time for anything else, I'm sure.

So tell me about this other website you can develop? And how can we ensure clickage? See, I knew there was a way to get all Alias on this person. I actually think it's a girl because one time they said that I needed to cut some bangs. What guy says that? Seriously.

You put a link in your blog and dupe them into clicking - something enticing to a stalker, e.g., "for more info about my family, click this link." At that point, you could attempt discouraging the miscreant by putting something like this in your blog "someone is leaving insulting messages and here is some info about them". If that doesn't work, we could get more agressive. Most think hacking is all technical but that's not the way it's done. It's mostly a mind game. That's why we had semi-annual seminars at the lab on operational security.

By more agressive, a developed site could attempt to dupe the visitor into installing a keylogger. This person(s) doesn't strike me as being particularly intelligent.

LMAO You slay me! That's a good song, btw. You could've done much worse.

Let us go forth with this genius plan. But let's proceed in private just in case it really is someone from this board (even though I seriously doubt it). PM? Email? What would you prefer?

Honestly, I can't figure out if they're really really smart or really really stupid. Because if they do know me in real life, then they have done a bang up job of keeping me from figuring out who they are. I'm leaning towards really really stupid, though just because I think a smart person wouldn't bother reading the blog of someone they don't particularly like. And come on! What's not to like about ME? (Don't answer that!)

Thinger, those are great ideas! For the caving sites I created and/or helped start up back in mizzery, amazed the others on the board that I could tell them who, when, where, how, etc. the people that visited our site - and that was like back in the stone age of the mid-'90's!!!

As to security on the web, for a long time I had my personal web page linked via TSG. But after having some thoughts & conversations w/ the woman, esp. after debating some in the religious [Islam] threads of CivDebate, decided to remove it, as it had link to my resume, which that version included home address, cell phone number, etc. Paranoid, probly so. Safer than sorry...

Its a shame that we have to worry about virus, spyware, and this crud...

Bad that there are so many sick/deranged peeps about. For example, who would even rationally think and consider murdering a pregnant woman just to acquire her baby!
