May Elections Who do you like
Delete this poll admins if another already exsists, i obviously havent looked hard enough or looked at all.

Anyway i dont know how many of you are britons out there but no dought everyone has heard the news.

Whos side are you on?

Labour who promises a better way but we have had nothing but strikes and inflation.

Conservatives who just say everything that Labour has done wrong and also say there is a better way.

Or Lib Dems who have kept quiet and say all they want is fair election and the hopes of people.

I like Tony Blair. Is he up for re-election?
I know he's not a Conservative such as myself, but I believe he loves his country, and so far, I like his backbone in the House of Commons when I watch it on CSPAN

You need Margret Thatcher, someone with the "balls" necessary to run your country. Someone should start a write in campaign.

Speaking of Thatcher!

'Iron Lady' visits lap dancers

4-12-2005 07:54 - (SA)

London - Margaret Thatcher, the former British prime minister, has made a rare public appearance for her beloved Conservative Party - at a glitzy London lap-dancing club.

Thatcher, 79, toting her trademark handbag, turned up Sunday at Stringfellow's for a Tory fund-raising event ahead of the May 5 general election, the Daily Telegraph and the Sun newspapers reported Tuesday.

"Margaret Thatcher has always been a heroine of mine, so I was genuinely humbled to welcome her to the club," said mulleted clubowner Peter Stringfellow, 64, who is usually surrounded by buxom blonde twentysomethings.

"I was just in awe of the woman
."

Thatcher, known as the Iron Lady for her uncompromising right-wing politics when she was prime minister throughout the 1980s, rarely makes public appearances due to her failing health.

About 400 Conservative supporters turned up for Sunday's function, but it was unclear what Stringfellow's posse of dancers did.

The Sun quoted the impresario as saying "all the girls kept their clothes on," while the Daily Telegraph said he gave them the night off - although he added: "I got the distinct feeling she'd have loved to have seen them".

A few weeks old:

Poll gives Labour big lead
3-27-2005 12:32 - (SA)

London - Prime Minister Tony Blair's governing Labour Party enjoys a 12-point lead on the main opposition Conservatives as an expected British general election draws closer, a new opinion poll on Sunday suggests.

The poll for the Independent on Sunday newspaper, conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday by CommunicateResearch, put Labour at 43%, the Tories at 31% and the Liberal Democrats at 17%.

The results follow a YouGov poll for the Daily Telegraph on Friday which showed Labour and Tories running virtually neck and neck at 35% and 34% respectively.

The Independent on Sunday poll, based on phone interviews with 1 012 adults, was carried out just before the Conservatives were accused of having a hidden agenda to slash public spending to a greater degree than proposed.

The furore was based on remarks by senior Tory member of parliament Howard Flight to a Thatcherite think tank, prompting party leader Michael Howard to dump Flight from his list of candidates.

Blair, keen to win a third straight term in office for Labour, is expected to announce a May 5 election in the next week or two. (Which he did!)

Considering the fact that the vast majority of Brits are against Blair's foreign policy, it is amazing that his party still has such a substantial lead. That probably reflects how low a regard people have for the Thatcherites.

Yeah linskyjack, imo New Labour have pretty well hijacked most of Maggie Thatchers ideas,of course they would not agree with that having spent years opposing her government ,as for Maggie Thatcher herself i have to agree with gbrumb ,love her or hate her she was a good leader.
