Us Military Rollcall
I just would like to get an idea of how many people here at TSG are or ever have been in the Armed Forces. It doesnt matter what branch or if it was the Reserves or Guard.

RANK: SSG (Staff Sergeant)
US ARMY- Transportation
Ft Stewart (24th ID)
Ft Stewart (3rd ID)
Ft Campbell (101st)
Ft Benning (HET Unit)
Active Duty Army
1994-Present

*You dont have to post a full bio. Perhaps a little about yourself and military career if you want to. Nothing that would compromise OPSEC please.

There's no selection for those who tried to enlist but were rejected due to knee injuries

I did provide networking support to a reserves location...does that count?

I was a jarhead, I drove semis (the dragon wagon) for the 3rd Marine Air Wing out of Tustin Ca. Yes, an REMF, but plenty of REMF's got messed up in the theater I served in. Active duty, served 3 1/2 yrs. Desert Storm, 100% service connected. I got issues, but I'm working on them. Cosidering what my fellow GI's are going through I'm pretty lucky all things considered. Sight and hearing are precious things. I'm proud of my service, bootcamp was tough and a sobering and maturing experience. The best thing about serving in the armed forces is making friends with people of all kinds of backgrounds from all over the US (and world, in some cases). You get some great stories.

Angel, the first guy on the left died about three weeks after the picture was taken, he was shot while on a recon patrol The rest of us survived the war, although a couple of guys are still sufferring from the trauma.

Linsky, are the stories I've heard true (about grunts being on tense patrols near the end of their discharge date) and within 96 hrs. they are civilians walking the streets of the left coast wihout any adjustment period or counseling whatsoever, among hippies and civs w/o any sympathy?

-I dont think the government had any idea how distraught and traumatized the field soldiers were therefore they weren't prepared to help them make the transition. My personal experience was different, in that my family was there for me and I began college that fall.

As far as the treatment of returning troops goes---it varied. For the most part, the guys I kept in contact with didn't find much hostility from "hippies" etc. In fact, as I said in an earlier post, most of us felt that the "hippies" had a lot to do with getting us home alive. I'm sure some experienced animosity, but I dont think its what the chicken hawk myth makers want us to believe.

From the title of the thread, I though you wanted opinions of people, not necessarily of military persuasion!
