Federal Judge Declares Pledge Of Allegiance Unconstitutional
SAN FRANCISCO -- A federal judge in San Francisco ruled Wednesday it is unconstitutional for public school children to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, because it contains the words "under God."

District Judge Lawrence Karlton said he's bound by precedent set by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled in 2001 that it was unconstitutional for the Pledge to be recited in public schools.

The Supreme Court threw out that case, ruling that Sacramento atheist Michael Newdow had no standing to bring the legal action.

Newdow objected to the words "under God" in the pledge.

Newdow brought the second case to the federal court -- this time, representing unidentified parents and their children.

Wednesday's decision sets up another constitutional showdown over the pledge.

Yeah I remember this one....he first brought the case on behalf of his daughter (I think) but he did not have custody, and therefore, no legal standing to bring the case...the Supreme Court would not comment on the case itself, only how it was brought.

Wish he and the judge would migrate to Iraq and make their cause known.

What I find Amusing is when people say Fundies about a certain group they are usually on the Complete other end of the Scale and they themselves are being Fundies!

I started a thread about this a couple months back... I'll see if I can find it. It was a pretty interesting read.

Here it is! http://forums.techguy.org/t362374.html

Ahh, my early days here... lol!

I skip the Under God part of the pledge, but I do stand and sing the national anthem if asked (which was mentioned somewhere in the other thread). Sctually, today was the 191st anniversary of the writing of the anthem, and our teachers made us all sing it at 9 AM. I was one of the only ones in my class who actually sang... lol. I like to sing.

"If only, if only," the woodpecker sighs,
"The bark on this tree were as soft as the skies."
While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely,
Crying out to the moon, "If only, if only."
"If only, if only." The moon speaks no reply
Reflecting the sun and all that's gone by.
Be strong, my weary wolf, turn around boldly.
Fly high, my baby bird, my angel, my only.
