government sucks
heres some ideas why

you get a paycheck at the end of the week and the goverment takes out up to 40% money

then if u improve your house and try to make it look nice like adding stuff you get taxed for more stuff.

you buy stuff at the store they tax you

and to think in 1776 they fought england cause they were being taxed on tea.....

burning gas in your car is bad for the air....so when they come out with a hybrid car which uses less gas you think the goverment would like you having it but no its hurting the gas industries so they tax you as much money as you would of saved by using it so no one buys it

and where does the tax money go well in iraq its about 51 million dollars a day to be in iraq for supplies/guns,food everything ,people....so whats the good cause "saddam has weapons of mass destruction" where are they lol

or when u see a cop parked in the bushes waiting to pull you over or a undercover cop car at a dunken donuts on a so called top secret under cover mission theres your money at work AND cops make from 80,000-120,000 a year

and all this money they get you think they would try to fix the streets or do something.......so thats the world we live in..........

government lies about every single thing they tell you like area 51 what really happens.......if you try to taker a picture of area 51 and watching it you will be killed in your sleep and say its a sucide

republicans suck and only give tax breaks to people who dont need them instead of middle class and worry more about buisness money and gredy then the average hard working american

Hey... there is some truth to what you've said, but unless you have solid, debatable proof of anything you will be slaughtered by some here...and even if you did it would be thoroughly disputed by the Republicans around here. Interesting nevertheless...

First...sounds like you are talking about the Boston tea party. This was really a hit at taxation without representation. But it was not to keep from paying tax...it was because Britain passed the 'Tea Act' which allowed the tea from (India/China?) to be sold without the colonial taxes. This undercut the local producers/sellers making it impossible for them to compete. So see, they were not fighting against being taxed, but to force the taxes to be upheld

Second ~ Police officers do not make 80 - 120k/yr The starting wage is on average 35k/yr with training incentives...whoever provided you with these figures is not giving you solid information.

Third ~ I find it interesting that you say that all government lies/sucks...yet only single out one party, it sounds like you have an agenda to push against a single political party which removes the idea you are really complaining against them all

Cost of living is much higher in Long Island New York, I'd guess it works out to be close to the same....still, it sounds subjective...there are no effects in the towns or schools?

About the 40%, that is for the highest end of wage earners...most are in the 20-25% range..where I am, and due to Bush's tax cuts, I now pay 2% less.

I was just over at the NYPD website and the FAQ states that the starting salary is slightly lower than $35,000

But whatever number is correct, what do you think a policeman should be paid?

Right, so cost of living is considerably more...resulting in a wage ratio to match.

Huh?

Shorty, I get the feeling you recently had an unpleasant run-in with the police.

I'll ask again, what do you think a police officer should be paid?

And if the undercover cop at the donut shop is------well, undercover-------how do you know he is a cop?

Oh no. You've revealed the government's deep, dark secret. Now they're going to come and kill you. Run away, and never return to this forum.

You think Republicans would dispute that government taxes you too much? When's the last time Democrats advocated cutting taxes? When's the last time you saw a Republican on this board complaining that the government doesn't tax you too much or that government is a good thing?

You get tax breaks for buying a Hybrid. I know because I'm going to get one because they just approved being able to drive in the car pool lane if you have a certain type of Hybrid (like the Prius). You get state and federal tax deductions for purchasing specific models as long as they meet the fuel economy requirements.

Actually, the largest tax cut went to the middle class. Those kind of facts get in your way, don't they?

Trust me..if you come in here leveling accusations towards our government, you had better be very prepared, the people in here have been arguing every possible problem and solution imaginable and are very well read. Doesn't mean they are right just able to take it to the next level. Saying that our Governemnt sucks is very feasible, just had better be prepared to back that up with cold hard facts. This is the arena of the big boys and the informed.

Actually, I think we have the best government in the world. But governments by their very nature are inefficient, so they are best left to do as little as reasonably possible. I see governments as a referree, not a nurse maid. The left sees government as their mommy--they've never quite been able to cope with being on their own--they live the security of mommy in the next room to take care of them!
