One of the hosts Pugs, made the statement that Hippies were the reason that this country has gone pot becuase they took this hippie mentality which is based on idealism and little responsibilty, and as they got older, took thses ideals to Washington, where it fostered into what we have today. Pugs even said his Mom was a big hippies, and doesn't hate them, but rather is disgusted on the results of this, even questioning what good did hippies really do? The one caller, a female nurse, said if it were not for Hippies, there would be no free love, to which he retorted that the Romans were far better at hedonsim than the hippies could ever be, and that for the most part, they attributed really nothing of importance, although accepting that there could be an influence on art, although saying would give credence that hip-hop also influences art.
As I was lsitening, I chuckled to myself, as he stated that Clinton was a perfect example of what happens when Hippies get intop office.
Thoughts?

They have more accumulative wealth than any generation before them, are more open about some things than their parents, and far more conservative about others, etc. My mother-in-law was a hippie and my hubby grew up believing that liberals were the caring party and hubby is having a very hard time accepting the fact that his mother has done a complete turn around. He's agrees with her on most things, he's just not used to hearing Mom say things that are geared more toward the conservative point of view. His Dad on the other hand was not so "liberal" and Vietnam messed him up for awhile, but 9/11 changed both of their viewpoints dramatically. Still though, I had to chuckle b/c he was so shocked that his mother recently told him the Luxor was a dump and she'd never stay there again, she much rather prefers the Bellagio and is willing to spend the extra money. He still talks about that conversation wondering when his mother became so particular about these things. What I was trying to do was perhaps point out the hypocrisy and uselesness of the hippie movement as it pertains to do, and the correlation that the mind-set of the sixties has done great harm to the US today. Things Hippies Have Done to Benefit Mankind
1. Tie-dye
2. Shown us the greatness of patchouli.
Hmm, thats all i got.

Bellamy Brothers! Loved them. Loved this song, just didn't know what it was called.
Bellamy Brothers
Old Hippie
He turned thirty-five last Sunday
In his hair he found some gray
But he still ain't changed his lifestyle
He likes it better the old way
So he grows a little garden in the back yard by the fence
He's consuming what he's growing nowadays in self defense
He get's out there in the twilight zone
Sometimes when it just don't make no sense
He gets off on country music
Cause disco left him cold
He's got young friends into new wave
But he's just too friggin' old
And he dreams at night of Woodstock and the day John Lennon died
How the music made him happy and the silence made him cry
Yeah he thinks of John sometimes
And he has to wonder why Chorus:
He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
He's an old hippie...his new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust
He was sure back in the sixties that everyone was hip
Then they sent him off to Vietnam on his senior trip
And they forced him to become a man while he was still a boy
And in each wave of tragedy he waited for the joy
Now this world may change around him
But he just can't change no more
Chorus
Well, he stays away a lot now from the parties and the clubs
And he's thinking while he's joggin' 'round
Sure is glad he quit the hard drugs
Cause him and his kind get more endangered everyday
And pretty soon the species will just up and fade away
Like the smoke from that torpedo...just up and fade away

Hmm, thats all i got. | You forgot all the great music. Neil Young, Santana, Crosby Stills & Nash, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd, etc. We couldn't listen to the Beach Boys and the Kingston Trio forever. | | Distinguished Member with 14,277 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2001 Location: Republic of Texas Experience: Advanced |

Ironically, with the exception of CST, I wouldn't classify the as "hippie" music, lest you leave out Joan Baez and the rest of the suck bands. I think most would classify hendrix,Santana, and Pink Floyd, especially Hendrix, of bringing the electric guitar and amplifiers into a new genre.
